JetBlue Named 'Best Low Cost/No Frills Airline' By OAG: JetBlue Proves Lower Fares Can Come with Higher Standards
LONDON, May 19, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq:JBLU) today was named "Best Low Cost/No Frills Airline" by OAG, the global travel and transport information company, as part of their 2006 Airline of the Year Awards. JetBlue was nominated for Best Airline Based in North America as well.
"On behalf of JetBlue's 10,000 crewmembers, I am pleased and honored that JetBlue was recognized with this prestigious award," said David Neeleman, JetBlue founder and CEO. "This distinction truly speaks to our crewmembers' dedication to bring humanity back to air travel one customer at a time."
The OAG Airline of the Year Awards have grown in stature and prestige over more than two decades. For airlines around the world, they are among the most valued and respected of all the accolades, representing the views of their most important customers -- the frequent traveler. Independent and unbiased, the OAG awards recognize excellence, both in the air and on the ground.
In the six years since its launch, JetBlue Airways has focused on creating a new airline category -- an airline that offers value, service and style. Based out of New York City, the low-cost carrier currently serves 36 destinations with more than 390 flights daily. Onboard JetBlue, customers enjoy roomy leather seats and 36 channels of free DIRECTV(r) programming (see Note), the most live TV available on any airline. On flights longer than two hours, a selection of first-run movies and bonus features from FOX InFlight(tm) is also available. JetBlue offers customers generous brand name snacks and beverages, including freshly brewed Dunkin' Donuts coffee, and delicious wines selected by the airline's Low Fare Sommelier, Josh Wesson from Best Cellars. On overnight flights from the West, the airline now offers Shut-Eye Service, with a Shut-Eye Kit(tm) designed exclusively for JetBlue by Bliss Spa and other special amenities including a "good morning" hot towel service. With JetBlue, all seats are assigned, all travel is ticketless, all fares are one-way, and an overnight stay is never required. For information or reservations call 1-800-JETBLUE (1-800-538-2583) or visit www.jetblue.com.
Note: DIRECTV(r) service is not available on flights to/from Bermuda, Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic; however, where applicable FOX InFlight is offered complimentary on these routes. FOX InFlight is a trademark of Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. JetBlue's in-flight entertainment is powered by LiveTV, a wholly owned subsidiary of JetBlue.
The OAG Airline of the Year Awards are based on votes polled from OAG's world-wide customer base of business travelers, and their votes are based on personal experience. Results are collected and analyzed by an independent research company.

In my experience, B6 has never offered the lowest fares on any routes to CA, thus to claim it proves that low fares come with high standards is a load of crap.
They provide a quality one-class service. There is no doubt of that. But they don't do it by offering low fares, at least whenever I check flights.
Maybe if you want to fly tomorrow, sometimes the price is lower, but for those of us who plan in advance...

As much as I like Jetblue I've got to say Frontier gives them a run for their money. Airtran is growing on me too for the new interiors, XM radio, great simple pricing, FF program, and userfriendly website. I like that they have a low cost premium cabin.

I do not doubt that their fares have been beaten by any number of bankrupt carriers. I wonder if that is maybe a reason that Jetblue isn't bankrupt?

Well, it isn't only B6. Southwest is nearly 400 dollars to go coast to coast, plus it is summer season, when people travel a lot during the year. The airlines are also trying to make money because of the higher gas prices. So JetBlue isn't exactly the only airline right now that is increasing their fares.
Not all of us can be heroes, some of us can only stand on the sidewalk and clap as they go by.

When do you check like the week before and on heavry routes. I just serched many flights to the west coast on peak dates and jetBlue has been the same price or within $15 dollars of AA almost $50 of DL on many occasions. Sure sometimes the legacy's can be less but for a large part of the summer (I sampled JFK-SAN) they are all on par with each other but with DL going to same price of almost double at times for a one way ticket.
I do admit they have gotten more expensive but look at the market these day, would you want them to still be offering $99 on all of those routes and go out of business? Someone who understands the market on this website should no that (and I am in 13-15 group and I know that). So I think you should be aware of that.
But on the good side, that is a greatnews, well deserved in many reasons. Though prices may not be at an all time low all the IFE makes up for it.

You have to understand that airfares on any airline, especially in the U.S., are extremely inconsistant. jetBlue has a very simplified fare structure. 7 years ago, pre-jetBlue, $500 roundtrip coast-to-coast was a bargain! Today, that's upper average towards expensive. AA, DL and UA were getting away with charging their customers up to $2,500 roundtrip in econonomy on a peak travel day, last minute purchase....those fares don't even exist today.....it's called the "jetBlue effect." With a $399 one-way fare cap on jetBlue, they are verty competitive. When planning in advance, jetBlue is not always the CHEAPEST but they are the best VALUE for one's money...no doubt there. However, thanks to jetBlue, other airlines have lowered their ridiculous fares. I've gotten very lucky in the past and paid $99 one-way transcon to LGB and SEA from JFK. 2 years ago I even grabbed a $79 one-way transcon. This past winter, I was blown away by my $39 one-way from JFK to FLL. These fares, anyone will admit, are unrealistic. Great for the consumer...bad for the airline. When fares stay that low, way below operating costs, every airline hits serious financial trouble. That's why jetBlue is fixing the problem now and increasing its fares....right along with all the other airlines out there.

while i'm glad to see B6 help eliminate to a certain extent those egregious spontaneous transcon fares by the legacies, B6 isn't going to help me fly JFK-LHR, ORD-DEL, etc.....
that being said, congrats to B6 for doing a good job on their mission, now lets see if they can return (and sustain) to profitability while having the same level of service...
