Senior staff from the national airline are considering a possible future investment in Chinese short haul aeroplanes after a meeting last week with representatives of the Chinese state-owned aircraft company.

[snip snap]

An Air Seychelles press statement confirmed that the meeting had focused on CATIC’s “Y12 19-seater turboprop aircraft, which is a potential replacement for the DHC6 Twin Otter aircraft used by Air Seychelles.”

What would be the advantage of replacing DHT with YN2? I flew the YN2 several times and it is less or more the same like the DHT. Even the performance of the DHT is slightly better than the Yun-12. The only reason could be, that in general, the Yun-12 is cheaper to be operated than the Twin Otter.

Put it into the political perspective... you get a couple of Y-12s dirt cheap, and we are in turn allowed to do some offshore drilling to find some additional oil for our insatible demand for energy. Don't know if true, but I would certainly not rule it out completely.

Well, that could be the case here, right. The Chinese Aviation Industry is doing some interesting deals. Not only in the Seychelles but also in Zimbabwe and other places around the world.
