This photo makes you realize just how gone the good old days are. When flight decks had multi-colored lights, hundreds of gauges, and all the trappings for a REAL pilot. I'm not saying today's pilots aren't real, ha ha.. It is just all of the fun in flying has been taken out and replaced with computers, TV Screens, and newspapers. I know technology has come a long way, but one thing I wonder is... The 777 cockpit was DESIGNED by pilots... So how come it has all of the new technology? I mean, if I had any say in the design of any flight deck, I would put back all the gauges and lights. To those who say that there are better navigation systems. Well, older 727s didn't have today's navigation systems, and they're still flying. I'm sorry for the rant, but I just miss all of those lights, buzzers, and gauges with the dials spinning clockwise (counter-clockwise is bad unless you're on the ground, LOL).
Are there currently any pilots here who wish to share their experiences with older flight decks as opposed to today's? Which one did/do you like better? Are you a gauge guy or a computer dude? Do you like flying the plane, or reading a newspaper?
Nothing could have been better than sitting back watching all of those gauges move around in the dark with the tiny glow of the gauges and talking loudly to your co-pilot at 36,000 feet on a trip to LAX from JFK with the JT8Ds screaming out in pain.
