UA's SanAntonio (SAT) Operations - Status/Updates?

Wanted to check in out there and see how United's expanded service at SAT and possibly New Orleand are doing with the new UAX/Mainline service. How have the loads been? Things looking up? Staff hanging in there?

All thoughts/comments appreciated!

It's really not correct to say it's "UA's" operations - there is no expanded mainline service. It's all an at-risk experiment conducted by Trans States Airlines. UA just collects the cash for every passenger flown under the UA code.

Yes United is pretty much getting paid a fee to use the name, connecting service, branding, company recognition and frequent flyer program. This is Trans States' operation. You can check out their press releases to see how the service is doing.

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

That's how regional airlines used to make money. Now, as Michael Boyd likes to point out, all these "regional airlines" are really just regional jet wet-leasing companies - or "small-jet providers."

That's odd. If I go to the Trans States Airlines website, I cannot book any of the flights. It directs me to the United Airlines website to book.

And I see that all the aircraft say "United" on the side.

If I go to Travelocity to book, say, SAT-OMA, it says it is a United flight.

If it walks like a duck.....

the SAT operation is is a shared risk to a point by by both ua and trans state...ua is assuming the costs of airport ops since every city that the gets the trans states flts is a ua mainline city...btw....mci is getting the axe on the sat flt..unsure of what date it is happening but everything else is staying put.

They should move that flight to MSY. MCI-MSY has always been a strong market and has a major vaccum right now.

Both SAT-MCI and SAT-TUL appear to be getting the boot. That leaves 2x to MSY and ABQ, plus a single flight each to COS, OKC and OMA if I recall correctly.

I've been to San Antonio b4. I Loved their neat little airport. Similar in architecture as in El Paso.

I was on the ORD-SAT-ORD route last week on my way from/to DCA. 737-500 on the way in and a CRJ-700 back. Loads appeared pretty good but I am still not satisfied with the schedule. The latest flight out of SAT is before 7pm making it impossible to complete a full business day and still return a car and run the security gauntlet - which has been very quick of late. I still have to stay the night and leave at 6:50 the next morning.

I go back in July and was able to book the only non-stop which departs IAD at 5pm. Returning, like I said, I have to stay over and return across ORD the next morning.

Also, I was in OKC six weeks ago and had an opportuntity to go across MSY on the way back to IAD. Decided not to as the MSY-IAD leg was the last flight out that evening. At least going across ORD I had multiple options should my flight from OKC get delayed.

...are we there yet?
