I am arriving BKK next Saturday on LX and TG have advised me that I am unable to purchase a connecting return flight online to KUL as KUL is not an E-Ticket station.
This leaves me with two options of arriving in BKK and purchasing a ticket there on arrival or buying a one-way fare online (out of BKK only at £99 in 'Y' and £152 in 'J'). Having looked at the availability - the flight I need is wide open.
Is it possible to get a standby ticket (say in Royal Executive Class) and is it likely to be much cheaper than the E-Ticket fares on www.thaiair.com?

I'm not aware of any standby fares currently. Seems like there used to be, but haven't heard them mentioned lately. I'd call Reservations and double check. If you find they have them, let us know!
Couple of flights that day are sold out in Coach, especially later in the day, and with all of the activities and celebrations surrounding King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 60th year on the throne things are hopping right now.
