'Some Air Canada Jazz mechanics say they're pressured to cut corners to quickly get flights like this one, taking off from Pearson Airport, back in the air. When they refuse to sign an order allowing a plane with defects to return to service, superiors find a mechanic who will or simply sign the order themselves, the mechanics say. The airline, created by a merger of several regional carriers, rejects the allegations, saying: We never sacrifice safety in order to achieve an on-time flight departure.'

...Sorry for the long URL.

What can I say else that... I'm not surprised. And I'm sure QK isn't the only one in this situation. Should we trust Transport Canada? Yes because there is no other option. Are they efficient? Working for the government myself (and most of the family as well), I have my doubts as to how fast Transport is at reacting. Just like the FAA, it is like a huge elephant, when it moves a paw, the other ones follow 3 years later. You do something wrong? We'll give you a little slap on the wrist but that's all.

You are most probably correct that this issue doesn't just affect Jazz (QK).

I have always trusted Transport Canada in the past, but in today's climate of economic change, I am sure they have trouble staying objective as well.

Hopefully Jazz and AC can get their respective acts together and realize that bad press will drive people to Westjet, Harmony and Canjet.

I have taken a few dozen flights between YVR and YQG, and to be honest I have had a bad feeling on a few of those flights with Jazz.

I still long for the days of Canadian and Canadian Regional.  airplane

One thing I wouldn't be so sure about is that AC is just as bad. Possible but I hope and believe the mainline might have slightly higher operational standards. I mean, don't get me wrong, their planes aren't falling from the sky and crashing everywhere, but it is worrying when not 1 or 2 but 12 mechanics speak the same way about their airline. Is it a disgruntled group? Possibly. Sensationalism by the Toronto Star? Also possible. But I have sources I can't really name without getting in trouble that have mentionned that QK isn't exactly well organized and that there is a lack of communication between deptarments (which is cited in the article unsurprisingly). But who knows... WJ, CanJet or Harmony have their issues as well I'm sure.

It won't stop me from flying. Hey... I could get hit by a car crossing the street.
