AC's Options With YYZ

Does AC really have any other options then to pay the high rents and landing fees that are charged at YYZ? I would assume that the majority of their international destinations all connect at YYZ for travel onward to the US and Canada.

But could AC move some to YOW, YUL or YHM, to help decrease there operating costs? I am not sure if AC has a better deal with YYZ due to the proporition of operations that it is responsable for? I am under the impression that these fees are the reason why there are tons of connections in YVR for asia, and there is a fair amount of international (european) service from YUL

Your thoughts?

YYZ is AC's hub, AC is way to established at Pearson to move it's operations. Basically it's entire network in based on arrivals/departures out of YYZ. Even though AC must pay ridiculous rent, I haven't herd them complain about it too much.

You would think with the push to gain long term profitability, they would be looking to reduce the costs associated with YYZ as well. i wonder if they were to pressure the government, if they could get any concessions. Granted all other canadian carriers would want the same.

With reduced fees at YYZ AC could probably operate to more cities, without them. We will be forced to make connecting flights, such if life i guess.

Do you not mean Western Canada? I would see the demand for some of these routes, and with the capacity restructuring that AC is doing, they could possibly utlize some more EMB on the connecting flights.

Is it just me, or is AC returning a lot of A319 and A320's this year?

you would think so, but AC has introduced new US, domestic and International flights from YYZ this year.

I can't explain it either, I think it's just an "we don't have a choice" approach from AC. I would think AC does get some sort of discount from the the GTAA since Pearson could not survive financially without AC.

Yul got alot of catching up to do as a Hub for AC... they were split from YMX and YUL for 28 years so the feed to YUL was non-existand than... Slowly but surely...

I believe AC has returned some ex-AF A321 lastyear which went to CSA. I think FIN289 and FIN297 and FIN291 all A319s have left. Also I believe some older A320's may go as well due to the EMB's coming into the fleet.

AC should tell YYZ autority that they will move a big load to YUL if price don't drop...YYZ would not have a choice if they lose 30% of AC business it will hurt they wont actually do it but could be a barganing chip??

I would think it would be a bargaining chip. I am just thinking that with the 777 and 787 coming online in the next few years, that YYZ is going to be increasingly expense for AC to operate from. I understand the hub and spoke system, and realise that the EMB, and the CRJ that have been purchased were added to reduce landing charges and to right size the markets for there desitnations.

I just do not think that AC has enough power to move some operations to YUL, there headquarters is there due to the canadian gov't. i think they could flex some muscle and get some concessions from YYZ, but they just have not gotten around to it. YVR/YYZ-YUL-LHR/FRA/CDG would make just as much sense as YYZ, but there needs to be the demand.

With the new international terminal and US Customs unit going into YHZ is there any chance of AC using Halifax for some new routes to the US? Or perhaps move some routes form other airports?

Not true, AC is cutting YYT out of the YHZ - LHR route, the new service will be Halifax direct to London.
