my cruise get into tampa at 8am.. and the two flights i'm looking at are 11:27a and 3:39p.. into EWR. i'd like to take the 1127 because i need to go out of town again the next day and i could use the extra couple hours. is 3 and a half hours enough to disembark, and travel from the port to the airport?

Cruise ships run to a very strict schedule,so you will be on time.
I do lots of work with P&O cruises, and they need to be in port on time,to refuel, replenish food/drinks etc.
They obviously have the new passengers to load aswell, and ships tend to arrive in port during the early hours of the morning.
Best of Luck!

Having worked for a cruise line first of all let the cruise line know you want and need to get off with the first group off, also like others have stated take your luggage with you and you should be fine.
NOt to cause you any worry, but on my 2003 cruise, we were delayed leaving Grand Cayman by 2 hours because tendering operations were running way behind. We were scheduled to arrive in Tampa at 7:00 a.m., but were not docked until about 9:00 a.m. Add to the delay the fact that some "thoughtful" passenger hadn't settled up their bill yet, and we were not able to leave the ship until about 10:30. We had an 11:30 a.m. flight (Airtran). And it was spring break and there were 18 of us trying to make the plane. I called Airtran and asked them not to give up those seats to any standby passengers as we were enroute to the airport. Airtran had two employees waiting for our vans who helped us unload our bags, then opened two windows just for us to get us checked in, then escorted us to the front of the security line. We made the flight just as they were getting ready to close the doors. Airtran earned a lot of respect from me that day. But yeah...ships usually arrive on time, but some things DO happen.

First off...if you can webcheckin at sea the night before do it. Some cruise ships offer bag check onboard prior to docking as well...depends on the cruise and the air carrier....otherwise curb check and go right to security. Lastly...enjoy the last part of the cruise and arrange a driver/taxi to take you to the airport and not have to wait for bus and 59 other people to board and deboard.
