Northwest Training New FAs?

I flew on NW 237 from DCA to DTW on Sunday evening, and it was quite apparent that a new FA was being trained on my D9S flight. Has anyone else noticed this recently on Northwest? I was shocked to see it, but there was no doubt when the FA that was training screwed up every announcement, couldn't work the P.A. system, and ignored almost all the passengers in first class when they boarded. She was just clueless. I'm just curious if this was a fluke or other people are noticing this.

I sincerely doubt she was new, but probably just an idiot. If the behavior you described was true, she would not have passed her IOE, which is flawed to begin with... They use 757-300s on IOEs for NW, and I think the A330 or DC-10.

There was definitely something screwy going on with that flight. There were way too many people with uniforms on it. More crew travelling than I've ever seen before, yet the FA couldn't work anything and her shoes were about a size too big. It's weird the things you'll notice sometimes. That being said, even though I'm a relatively loyal NW flyer, I rarely fly any DC-9s so I have no idea if they'd train people on them considering their schedule from DCA is almost all 319, 320, 757, and CRJ with the random 9s and ARJ's in there.

Hmmm, Could have been an IOE.. But I don't get it. I never heard of NW hiring flight attendants since last year when there was the big mechanic mess.

Sounds like pretty typical American in flight "service" to me...  Wink

I am furloughed from NWA and I would be kind of upset if NWA was training new f/a's and not offering us a recall. I have a feeling she probably just came back from a extended leave and is trying to get back into the swing of things. Maybe she is a senior f/a and is used to flying NRT or AMS and forgot what the inside of a narrowbody looks like.

Well then she must've been in training, that seemed to be standard procedure for NWA while I was flying on them.  pessimist  Thank goodness US matched my Worldperks Gold.

Could she have been management being primmed but not prepared to replace in case of CHAOS?

NWA is not hiring or training new flight attendants at this time.

They have over 1,000 on layoff with recall rights. They have to go through all of those folks before they start hiring and training activities...unless, of course, they throw out their contract which opens another can of worms.

Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

There is no one typical aircraft type we use for OE's. At one time, OE's were to LGW, or AMS, then they stopped sending FA candidates overseas because of funny business's between instructors/trainees. Some OE's towards the end of the last legitimate training cycle were to LAX, HNL, SEA, and SFO. Not talking about the scabs hired, they were illegitimate scum.

I did have a HOT instructor on my MSP-BUF flight a few days ago, and he said they were training over 1,000 foriegn nationals, for the reason of staffing flights should a an FA strike occur. That's what he told me. NWA wants the PFAA to call a strike.

Maybe you remember her from your recent class with NW?
