Hi everybody.

According to the delay announcement of Airbus for its A380 the airlines will have to wait another 6 months. I was asking myself if there were any delays with other new-build or new-designed aircrafts before. Who can help be with both Boeing: 737/727/747/757/767/777 and Airbus: 320-family, 330/340 old and new generation.
I would like to know if its just a problem of A380 or perhaps is it quite usual when new-designed planes start service.

Thank you very much for answers.

Greetz from Germany.

P.S.: Tonight we beat Poland.  Smile

Both 747 and 777 were late by a couple of months due to engine issues. While it is true that Boeing bet the house of the B747, it was a remarkably fast development. The certification took only 10 months (vs. 19 months for the A380) and entry in service was 3.5 years after official launch and first order (vs. 6 years for A380).

So one can say that delays are quite usual with those new-designed airplanes. And we have to admit that the A380 is a very special type of airplane which was never there before.

A couple of months is probably understandable and justifiable. But a 6 months delivery in EIS dates, plus another 6-7 months shift in production schedule can only be called "ultimate incompetence". And in historical perspective, the B747 was a much bigger breakthrough (and challenge) than the A380.

Yes I think you are right. I also think that Airbus wont sell more than 300 A380 if not BA, NW, or the Japanese carriers will buy some.
