Hello all, this past week I had the pleasure of flying out of Airside 3 at Orlando Int'l Airport on Northwest Airlines. I have not visited this terminal in 5 years and this was the first time flying out of it. I noticed that it was really outdated, ugly, and downright dumpy. Airside 1 is also very similiar. I know both terminals are the older ones but they are in need of a major facelift. Airside 2 where all the Low Cost Carriers are based at is the newest terminal at MCO and is extremely futuristic and clean. Airside 4 where Delta, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic ect. are all based at is very clean and classy.
Does anyone else on here share these same thoughts? Since MCO is such a huge O&D Airport, I would figure Greater Orlando Aviation Autharity (GOAA) would spruce up Airside 3 and Airside 1 to give visitors a lasting first impression.

I very much agree. Although you got numbers mixed up. Northwest, United, US Air, Spirit are in Airside 2. Airside 3 is the one where JetBlue, Southwest, and AirTran are and that's a nice one.

Quoting JohnClipper (Reply 1): I remember when it was Terminal A, Terminal B and Terminal C - and the "footprint" for Terminal "D"...
There is only Terminal A & B at Orlando. They label the airsides by number (1,2,3, and 4)
Since those two were the original airsides from the early 80s I'm sure they need a freshening. The problem you have is how much do you want to spend when so much trailer trash, chavs, and Eurotrash come through there on their way to the Mouse House that they are bound to mess it up?

Uh since when? I've been flying to MCO every year since 1991 (I travel to MCO currently around 5 times a year) and 1/3 are on the West Side, 2/4 on the East Side. FL/B6/WN are in 2; NK/US/UA/NW are in 3.

I'm not sure which airside I was in (gates #4 and #9 on CO) but "a freshining" is putting it mildly. As soon as I got off the aircraft until I got outside the terminals I felt like I had stepped back in time to 1981.
Have they done /anything/ to those terminals since they opened? The USA 3000 podiums looked particularly "aged"/

I was just at MCO last week and I guess some parts could get a "refresh". The one thing to remember is MCO is such a high demand, albeit leisure destination that people will go there no matter what. As long as Mickey Rat is still in business, people are going to go. Even if you deplaned into an old quanset hut and had to claim you luggage in an alligator pit, people would still go.
Last week I flew on FL and I loved that terminal. The worst times there were back when DL was the "Official Rodent Airline". Those damn Disney characters in the concourse were a annoying.
As a side note I have got to say that MCOs security is lightening fast. I also noticed that they are finally tearing down the old "missile barn" terminal.

The old terminal right ther off the Bee-Line? I thought UPS was using it for stuff along with some other folks.

You mean like the old terminal used to be?

Couldn't tell you for sure. I haven't been in those airsides in 10 years. All my flights are on DL so I get to use the newer ones.

Are they not the official one anymore? Either way they shut down the Disney Store in the Delta airside so the lack of perverts in Rat suits is refreshing as you said.

When I was being driven back to MCO from the convention center last week (Friday), I happened to look out... all that is (was) left was the overhang in front of the terminal. With the "United Parcel Service" sign hanging from it.

Damn! There goes another piece of Floridian history as we continue to progress in the name of the mighty Rat!

Hey, sorry guys. I still get the damned Airside numbers mixed up. Anyway, I did see where they tore down the old terminal. It kinda broke my heart. The old terminal is a piece of history.

That's classy. I live in Central Florida and can tell you we actually really like the trailer trash, chavs (whatever that means) and even the Eruotrash that visit our state. In fact we even like "Mickey Rat".. Why you may ask? Well we have NO STATE INCOME TAX and Florida is one of the cheaper states to live in due to all the income from those you distaste so much.
Just curious, but have you ever been on vaction anywhere in the world? Do you have any kids? What designator would you classify yourself as? Really would like to know.

Correct. DL's agreement with the House of Mouse expired in 1997 and was not renewed. In fact, there's no official airline at Disney World anymore... instead, Disney partners with airlines like WN, B6, UA, AA, and DL to provide seamless service to WDW resort guests.
Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, however, has AS as their semi-official airline... they also have 2 Disneyland logojets.

Settle down there Sparky. I'm a Florida native so I'm allowed to make fun of the folks who invade the state. Yes, they bring in lots of money and that is great but we had no state income tax well before the rat arrived in the 70s. Just take a drive around International Drive in Orlando and see the overt tackiness that is disgusting. Of course, Florida has always been somewhat tacky but even more so since the arrival of Mickey and Company.
As for your last questions...I have been on vacation in many places around the world and I do my best to act in accordance to the customs of the country versus being an Ugly American. I do not have any kids but my wife is pregnant and due in February. As for how I would classify myself...I'm always a few drinks away from being trailer trash myself.

Quote: I experienced the same thing. Always fly out of AA airside, which ever number it is. I flew with Delta last monday and was impressed with its airside
I havent been to AA's Terminal in about 6 years but it was dirty, and old the last time I was their. Although the Low Cost Carriers have the newest airside, Delta's airside is my favorite. I love the color of the tiles and the skylights.

In the 1980s & 1990s each finger had a big lighted letter above the tram stop from the main terminal to the gates. CO/EA/PA/AA/Old International Charter Terminal was "A", UA/NW/US//BN/PI/ValuJet were "B", DL/OH/VS/KL/FI/BY/BA were "C".
