SAS Braathens To Get More 737, Two W/ Winglets

According to Boarding.no Johnny Skoglund confirms that SAS Braathens will grow from today's 58 737's, up to 67 737's. Two 737-700 with winglets will arrive next year and two old 737 will be phased out Skoglund says.

If this article has it right this means that since two 737's are leaving the fleet, SAS Braathens would need 11 more 737's.

I find this very strange, because I have not seen any order of any kin for years. Will SAS Braathens lease these airplane? In that case, from whom?

Great news to here that SAS Braathens will get winglets 737.

Can't wait to see them! Wonder how they are going to do their winglets.

About time they get winglets. Their flights to Las Palmas, charterflights would be suitable for winglets. From what I understand winglets are most suitable for longer flights, and not specially for OSL-TRD-AES-BGO-SVG-OSL etc

Of course they are suitable for longer flights especially, but overall, using them on every single route would probably save some money fuel-wise.

SAS Group Annual Report for 2005
The two they will receive is mentioned here, on page 26 (30 out of 124 in the document,) in the table in the upper right corner. But I have no idea where the other eleven will come from, maybe from SAS Sweden or SAS Denmark?

Great news indeed, especially since it has been a very tough first half of this year for SAS Braathens.

Thank you for posting a link Brendows. I still find it strange that SAS does not announce their orders, so that they might bring some optimism at least to their employees.

The conversion from A321 to A319 just happened without an announcement as well. I might understand this, because SAS figured out the A321 was to big for their needs. But a 737 with winglets would make a good news!

SAS management has done some right things with their current fleet. They have sold and leased back their MD, and Airbus airplanes, so when the timing is right they will replace the older MD planes, and only time will tell what SAS ends up doing with their Intercontinental fleet.
