Loud Plane Over Oxford?

Just about 10 minutes ago I heard a very loud plane flying over Oxford. I put my head out the window to try to see it but even as the sound got louder and louder I couldn't see anything from where I was.

The noise levels reminded me of a B-1 takeoff from Long Beach.

I assume that the aircraft (whatever it was) was heading for Brize Norton but I've seirously never heard anything that loud that close here before. Plus the usual Brize Norton landings seem to fly a bit to the west of Oxford but in this case it seemed to be flying over the north.

Anyone got an explanation?

I have just seen a group of aircraft over my house in North London. They were heading North. I got a photo before they went behind those buildings.

Anything to do with the impressive fly-past over Buckingham Palace?

Yup, it was most likely to be the VC10

The VC10 was probably heading back to Brize Norton after the fly past in London!

I saw a VC-10, a Tristar and an AWACS aircraft, all in formation with fighter jets flying over East London and heading west about 1.5 hours ago. If I am not mistaken, the Red Arrows also followed.

Wow...VC10s are really loud then, if that was what flew over my building. Reminded me of the B1!

They are. Last year I saw a RAF VC-10 take off from BRU, and it was extremely loud!

Wow thank you for the video. Last time I heard such a sound was in the summer of 1980. I was standing outside of Terminal 2 at LHR looking south when I saw the red tail of a BA Super VC-10 taxi out.

Ah! I always wondered how it would look like when a 727 and a IL 62 fell in love...

I believe these are the Red arrows and an English Electric Canberra in formation

Dam it, someone beat me too it! Nice collection of aircraft for the flypast

In 1962 it was considered quiet compared to its contemparies
