Delta Air Lines announced today that it will discontinue flights fr PDX-NRT and NGO. Citing losses of $10mil over the past year it is now moving the NRT flight to JFK and moving the NGO flt to LAX. It also announced that of the 1200 positions in PDX, only 870 will remain. The 330 positions affected will be moved throughout the Delta system. PDX will go from 25 flights daily to 15 daily flights. Feeder flights to NYC/LAS/BOS will be terminated.

I don't know, but why don't they build a new terminal at OAK. The place is FedEx (which is big at night mostly) and Southwest. I think it could be good for Delta. There seems to be enough land around OAK (check out http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.asp?S=12&T=1&X=710&Y=5219&Z=10&W=2) and you could do flights to Australia and Asia from there.

Something isn't quite adding up here. The load factors between PDX & Japan as well as the connecting flights to the continental US were running 90%-100% full on most flights. There has to be more to this story, either with the INS or Portland itself, possibly the same thing that is happening to DL in SLC.
