If you sign up for DING fares on Southwest, do you really get cheaper deals and flights or is just a gimmick to get people to visit their website?

Definitely not a gimmick. Some great deals can be found. I have personally saved anywhere from $30-100 R/T on certain routes. Usually, you'll have a few hours from the time that fares are released to book and then that particular DING expires and new ones arrive with new city pairs and fares soon thereafter. However, with the busy summer season upon us, the really low fares such as $29-39 one-way may be a little scarce. But overall, give it a shot and check for updates as often as you can. You'll find something you like.

Doin' just fine thanks...

In my expreience, short and medium haul flights are usually $5-$10 less with DING and longer flights like PHL-LAX are $10-$20 less with DING.
