Only thing I know is that Qantas leased that A342 from Air Tahiti Nui. No idea if it was repainted but I doubt it.

It is true. QANTAS did wet lease an A340-200 from Air Tahiti Niu to operate services from Auckland to Papeete for 5 weeks from mid July. That service was replaced on August 26 when QANTAS will codeshare with Air Tahiti Niu on a once weekly service. The aircraft wasn't painted in QF livery.

How could Air Tahiti Nui lease their sole aircraft, the A340-200?

The aircraft was only leased once a week for the single Auckland-Papeete service, with full Air Tahiti Nui (TN) crews etc. This has now developed to a permanent arrangement and TN will codeshare with QF once a week, with QF operating its own 763 on the route once a week also. QF are also going to place its code on TN's PPT-LAX services from November 2000.

Ironic isnt it? QF codesharing with TN?? The old Australian Airlines code lives on!!!

Cheers
