The demise of the service has been long in the making. In the last few year overall usage and benefit of the service has gone down as cell phone availability and usage has increased dramatically on the ground, while inflight usage has remained flat if not declined at some carriers.

As a result the airline revenue share has also seen a steady decline while most recently several carriers have started to reduce/remove Airfone equipment on aircraft as a weight saving exercise due to fuel cost.

Wow, on board communications businesses are taking a big hit in the past week. With Airfone is closing down and Boeing is selling its connexion, not a bright outlook for this business model.

Cheers,

Does this mean they will discontinue their JetConnect service as well, or just the phone service? I always enjoyed using JetConnect to go on MSN messenger in-flight.

JetConnect will also be discontinued, as it uses the Airfone infrastructure.

I don't work for FWA, their tenants, or their ad agency. But I still love FWA.
