I'm not sure what you mean by that. If you are asking what airline carries the highest percentage of passengers in the world, it would be Southwest Airlines. WN might only fly domestic routes in the US, but they still carry more passengers than any other airline in the world.

Unfortunately for Southwest, that is not correct.

Currently, the world's largest airline is American Airlines, which carries more passengers and generates more revenue passenger miles (RPMs, the most widely accepted metric for measuring airline capacity) than any other airline on earth.

In terms of RPMs generated, I believe Air France/KLM is currently #2, with United #3 slot, followed by Delta. Southwest is #7, largely because while it carries very high volumes of people, it's average route is significantly shorter than, say, American or United, because of its limited transcontinental flying and lack of intercontinental flying.

In terms of domestic U.S. flying, Southwest is, indeed, the largest airline in terms of passengers carried, with American second-largest, while American is largest in terms of domestic RPMs and Delta is #2, with Southwest #4. Internationally, American is the largest U.S. carrier in terms of both passengers carried and RPMs generated, whereas globally, the airlines with the largest international networks are Air France/KLM, British Airways, Lufthansa, Singapore, and then American, in that order.

Out of curiosity, which airline alliance is the largest in terms of the definition above?

Probably Star because they have the most members.

Well the statement is not incorrect. Southwest does carry the most passengers, but yes according to RPM, AA is bigger. I guess that is a better representation overall.

Domestically, yes. But not in the whole world!

SQ flies to 62 cities in 34 countries. EK flies to 83 cities in 57 countries.

No my point was that they do carry the most passengers of any airline in the world. The US domestic market is by so far the biggest aviation market in the world. Yes I know that over 90% of the world's population has never heard of them, but they still are a huge airline.

Right, and that point is incorrect.

They do not carry the most passengers in the world.

During 2005, Southwest carried 88,379,900 passengers. During the same period, American carried 98,034,785 passengers.

American is the world's largest airline by passengers carried, carrying nearly 10 million more people in 2005 than Southwest.
