I thought Mesaba flew more than 85 daily flights out of DTW. That number seems awfully low.

The article concentrates on the wage and benefit cuts and the fight not flight against the proposed wage and benefit cuts.

Take away 11 Saabs and 20+ RJ85's, and its easy to have that low number of daily flights. Spread the flying amongst the 3 hubs, 85 is probably correct.

Company: we have $500 mil for wages
Unions combined:we want $600 mil combined!
Company: we have $500 mil for wages.

I don't know how the combined unions think they can get more blood from a rock. The total dollar amount available will be the same. It could just force everyone to strike, completely shutting down the airline, as opposed to a single group or 2 striking, possibly allowing the company to keep limping along with the rest of the employees.

Goliemn - you don't get it. We're not asking for RAISES, we're asking to keep as much of the industry AVERAGE wages we already have. Perhaps the you should be asking the company how they plan on getting "more blood from a rock."

The company is proposing to gut our contracts to the point that most of us will find themselves at or below the poverty level. Their plan may work on paper, but it isn't going to work in real life. Even if we aren't allowed to strike and these contract terms are imposed, there will likely be massive resignations which will bring any airline to a halt... or at least a slow crawl.
