I think that might be because AR are starting to fly themselves to older routes which they previously abandoned.
They have been advertising in UK papers flights via MAD for £404rtn. I emailed their London office, and they confirmed they had re-started flying 747's to LHR.
The fact is, that that is quite a cheap price, but not cheap enough to switch me from flying BA non-stop. I fly BA for approx. £550rtn, and am prepared to pay more, as I will not risk flying AR again.
They're new European routes are LHR, CDG, MXP in addition to MAD, perhaps FRA?
Most relatives flying to Argentina for holidays will fly a European airline though.
EDIT: Just got this from their website: Paris, Zurich, Frankfurt, Amsterdam are old routes which have been re-introduced. The addition seems strange given AR's financial problems.

are these routes being flown by 747s? now that AR has gotten some money from the gov't, can we expect to see the re-order of next generation A340s? i have flown on an AR 747 recently and it was an experience i would never forget. it was such an experience that i will never fly AR ever again.
the problem with AR is that the pride filled argentines would rather fly BA instead of their home carrier. how many americans would choose cubana over american?
AR needs help, and these new routes aren't going to give it.

i would choose any of those airlines over AR, and if i had to fly a southamerican airway, i would choose LAN or even Varig. the extra stop would be worth it

Hello,
As far as I know, they haven't re-started all those routes to Europe. They have always advertised that they fly to London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Milan, Zurich and so forth. The fact is that AR serves all these destinations through IB's codeshare.
Iberia's management decided to cut all of these european destinations so that AR would feed IB at Madrid. AR just re-initiated their, Buenos Aires-Lima-Los Angeles route which was originally to be offered thrice weekly but now has been changed to daily A340 service.

Latinplane;
The AR office said flights into LHR are a reality, the first flight (Sep 30) (AR 1171, 747) leaves LHR for EZE at 1845 local, arriving at EZE at 0855 local.
AR 1171 will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The code-share with IB is now over, at least to LHR. This means the other rumours are likely to be true.
As I said, this seems strange, given AR's economic situation.
