Wich allows them to still be a lot more economical than a normal 743, they are very good work horses for TG and perfectly succeed in their job.#
No way will the 743 replace the 772ERs, the 777-200ER`s have a bigger range than the 772A`s wich TG currently operates, meaning that if the 743 will get replaced it will be by the 772A, the 777-200ER`s are for a different market, and if im correct the 743 dont operated anymore long range flights, such as to FCO etc.

Perhaps whenever the A380s get delivered.
Remember this is TG, they just got rid of their small fleet of MD-11s just a few months ago after announcing plans to phase them out in the late 90s.

You gotta love Thai's fleet:
743/744
772A/772ER/773A
A300-600/A300-600R (mix of GE and PW engines)
A330-300/A330-300X
A345/A346
A380s to come..
DC10ER/MD11/A310 retired.
A very diverse fleet. I think that Thai's rather young 743s will remain in the fleet until the A380s are delivered to Thai a few years from now....the 743s still make sense on the high demand, lower yeild routes that they serve. The 772ERs will be used, I think, to open up new markets, including re-launching service to several European cities with nonstop service (TG served several cities in Europe, such as AMS and BRU, with one stop flights via other European cities, and it did not work out very well.)
Big question - What will replace the A300 in Thai's fleet. Whenever there is talk about an A300 replacement, AA and LH come up, but TG is a big A300 operator and it uses the A300 on domestic and shorterhaul regional routes. Any ideas?

Yes and no it seems.
MEL will get the 772ER's, JNB is a new route and will get them, DME will change from the 346 to the 772ER aswell. MAD becoming non stop stays with 744's, BNE is rumoured to increase to 5 weekly and eventually daily, i'd say 772ER could end up there to.
As for the 743's they are still scheduled to FCO until further notice, they have the very old cabins and are now the only 747's in the fleet with this configuration. I'd of thought they would be able to retire them with the delivery of the 772ER's even though they could go for a few more years.
