CA announced new flights to DEL and BOM starting October 2006. Amadeus has DEL flights - but no word on BOM. Apparently the flights were to be PEK-BOM-DXB with the 767. Any information

The Bird Group who run City Centers for LH in India and now GSA for Jazeera Airways apparently have the CA GSA for India.

Cool - If I remember right, CA just signed up with *A. Good to see another *A carrier entering India! And I'm sure the India - China direct market will be quite large (it's currently predominantly served by the likes of SQ/TG/MH etc.). Good luck to CA.

This event is quite significant in my opinion. One day there will be multitudes of flights between the two "Eastern Superpowers".

Their individual economic prowess and combined cooperation will surely increase annually into the next century.

Long over due, anyone aware that between India and YVR/SFO/LAX, the quickest path goes through PEK? (just check great circular map) Perhaps they're trying to capture the West Coast - India market.

Would certainly make a lot of sense, since there's a large market for West coast - India, and it's currently dominated by 2-stop carriers (like SQ, MH etc.). CA would provide a one stop option - which should mean it will shave off many hours on this long/painful journey.

Does anyone have any idea of the timings of CA's announced India flights? And whether they will connect both ways to services to the west coast?

CA was starting DEL-PEK flights initially - I think we discussed this on a Indian Aviation thread some time ago, darned if I remember which one! MU already operrates once weekly DEL-PVG flights, they plan to up the frequency since the planes go loaded with Indian traders - but the flight is only five hours over the Tibetan plateau. Otherwise getting from India to China is a painfully long process - AI has a direct BOM-DEL-BKK-PVG service (I don't know if it still operates) on one of the tubby's. I've done DEL-BKK-SHA and BOM-SIN-PVG through TG and SQ, the latter is a very long - five hours down and five hours back up with a two hour wait at that shopping mall that is Changi. Direct non-stop flights are so much better.

One of the oddest carriers in the market is Ethiopian, with DEL-PEK service. Has anyone tried them?

Out of SHA and PVG which is morecloser to the city center and which is much better infrastructure wise---how would you rate them in terms of infrastructure on a scale of 10

SHA is closer to the city centre - it is the older airport and feels a lot like an Indian airport. The same 1970's socialist feel to it, but much cleaner. Nice and clean but nothing fancy - 5/10.
PVG on the other hand - other than the woeful Duty-Free choice is an amazing airport, not as zap-wow as Chep Lak Kok (HKG) or Terminal 2E or 2F at CDG, but amazing. Loads of glass and steel, clear views and the Maglev outside and a eight-lane highway till Pudong side of town. If HKG is a 10/10 (actually 11 in my book) PVG would be a 8.5 or 9.
If India's aim is to emulate China, PVG would be a great place to start.
