They have already started moving some of the aircraft to Audeli, a subsidiary of Gestair, and wet-lease the aircraft back. Some of these are supposed to be converted into freighters for Cygnus Air later.

IB has a love/hate relationship with the 752......twice, IB placed signficant orders for the 757 and both times, a short time after the airplanes were delivered, IB determined that the 757 is not a good fit in its short haul fleet which will soon be all-Airbus. Ironic.

The thing is that the 757 is a very good and very versatile aircraft for IB.....it has extra range for segments to mid east and African destinations that the A321 would struggle with, it has a lot of seats which is useful for highdemand routes like MAD to LHR or the Canaries, and its a versatile airplane that can also be used economically on short high demand routes such as the BCN-MAD shuttle. But the 757 will be leaving the IB fleet in the near-term future.

I think that VARIG has four ex-IB 757s from the "new batch" and was planning to take four more......of course that was before things went so seriously wrong at RG.

All Varig´s 757 were previously operated by IB and were leased from ILFC. All four aircraft are grounded at GIG due to the NYC Bankruptcy Court decision. As far as I know, Varig pilots, crew and maintenance are enjoy the aircraft.

In Finnair's case, the 757s are used for longer charter hauls, to Thailand, the Mediterranean and I think also to BOS now this summer, routes which the 321 could only dream of.

None of us understand, dont feel bad. (And you are talking about the second group of 757s...IB was in the process of phasing out its older 757s when it placed the order for the new builds.)

The simple answer is that Iberia is going all Airbus and the 757s do not fit into their fleet......I also have no idea what will replace the 757 in the IB fleet, there are some routes flown by the 757 that would be a challenge with an A321 and certainly do not require an A343.

True, AY use 757 only for one class charter flights from Finland, outside Europe also to Southern-America and Caribbean - then even a 757 needs a techinical stop, in LPA for example.

The decision was not from the Bankruptcy court, it was an ILFC request (the owner of the 4 752) to ground the aircrafts to protect their planes.

The plane is loved on Varig due as its versatility to fly both international mid-range routes like CCS, BOG, LIM and SCL, as well as main domestic routes to northeast like SSA, REC, NAT and FOR.

RG has plans to add more 4 planes and they come into an agreement with Pegasus Aviation to receive 2 but their financial situation get worst and probably Pegasus does not honoured the agreement.

No, there's no B757 route which couldn't be flown with A32X aircraft.

Actually, a lighter plane is definitely more economic on short haul flights.

Of course it is, I said that the 757 was a versatile airplane, not the pefect airplane for short routes.

They used them on certain routes some time ago, but now a mix of A319/320/321 is doing the job. I don't think the A321-200s in IB's configuration would have a problem with serving any of the routes (e.g. Cairo and Dakar), but there's still the A320 to substitute.
