BA, Virgin, AA Accross The Pond?

Hey guys/gals.

Who should i fly between LHR and NYC??

I have the choice of:

1: BA on a B744
2: Virgin on a B74?
3: AA on a B777

The 3 tickets all cost the same for economy class so really i am looking in terms of comfort, entertainment, food etc....

By the way i work as cabin crew for a major UK airline and hold an IATA card (only been there 3 months so don't qualify for cheap tickets yet (( ), do you think i will be able to get myself bumped up into Business Class, is this standard for cabin crew travelling??? How should i go about it??

So anyway who would you reccomend for,

A: travel in economy....
B: " " in business.....

Show your IATA card at check-in, although it would be hard to get an upgrade on this route (because all classes are usually full)

A: All of them are probably very good in Y, my *guess* would be go for BA, as their WorldTraveller plus may have been installed inside the JFK flights now; if not then AA??

B:Definitely BA=get those beds, and you'll be cruisin'!!

2. Business- Can't really say... I'll never say BA for anything (I don't believe in their dirty marketing tricks- no matter how flat their beds are) From what I saw on the plane, go with Virgin.. but AA might be better.

In economy, I hear that AA have 34 inches of seat pitch on the 777s, compared with 31-32 on BA/VS economy. If you are flying a 744 on BA, remember that there is no guarantee of having a seatback TV either, whereas VS 744 or AA 777 would have this facility. The meals in BA World Traveller leave a lot to be desired and if those menus are the best that Brian Turner can do, I'm sure that we could all end up as celebrity chefs...
So for economy, go with AA (especially if you need the legroom).

If in Economy, note that AA has the most legroom especially on the triple sevens, then I would pick BA and last Virgin. I'm tall and have taken Virgin's BOS - LGW a number of times and have not been satisfied. Their seats are cramped, the PTVs work if you're lucky and the food is not that great. I think VS is overrated.

You also have a choice between UA, AI, and Kuwait Airlines between JFK-LHR. I hear Kuwait is pretty good, but AI isn't. (That's just what I've heard--I haven't flown either, but I can tell you AA and BA are BORING.) UA is ok, but Virgin is the very best.

I have flown both AA and BA in biz across the pond. If all the BA flights from new york have the new club world sleeper seats take those. If they don't, I preffer AA 777s, better food, and better service. (Some times BA has poor Club service from my experiences)

Can't help you out on if you should take VS, or which economy to take, havn't flown them.

Last month i flew IAH-LGW-BIO/MAD-LHR-JFK on BA. The new business class seats were installed on the the LHR-JFK portion. They are, in a word, interesting. And I'd like to hear other people's impression of them (but only if you've actually flown with them). Some impressions:

They do unfold to create a reasonably comfortable bed-like environment--but its not as comfortable as you may think (kind of stiff).

The ptv is very flexible but difficult to adjust lying down.

The headphone cord needs to be considerably longer.

For privacy there is this 'fan' contraption that you can adjust...but it's a little silly.

I don't like facing strangers...so the whole arrangement is a bit peculiar and looks very strange when you first see it....

I found the seats comfortable in the upright and 'bed' position...but had trouble getting comfortable in any inbetween positions.

All in all...I think this type of chair would be great for a truly long haul trip...but I prefer the 'cradle' seat for the seven hour haul.....

The food and service remained pretty much the same (very good).

I would recomend both VS and AA for both business especially with the stand up bar and the manicures and backrubs you would recieve when flying with Virgin. I hope AA can come up with something like this. I miss those days in which the flew 747-100 with the lounge and pianos on the upper deck. In eco I'd fly Virgin. The food is great and the FAs are elpgul along with the pilots. The video games rock as well as the food. VS is only pn of the few carriers that fly 747s trans-atlantically compared to airlines that switch for 777s, A340s, A330s 767s and in some cases 757s
