I was looking at the Star Alliance site ( www.staralliance.com ) and I came under the Star Alliance Round the World Fare. I have downloaded the "Round the World Mileage calculator", which I have found very well done!

There are 4 different "passes" to chose:
1- 26'000 miles (only economy)
2- 29'000 miles
3- 34'000 miles
4- 39'000 miles
And, you also have the choice between economy, business or first class.

Got it!

Just one thing: how much is it? I was looking for the prices and couldn't find them! Does anyone know about it? Has somebody done something similar?

Thanks,
HBDAN

Travel agents usually have the prices. www.thegreatescapade.com is also interesting. Singapore Airlines and Air NZ are also part of it.

When I worked for BD, we had access to all the RTW fares. I would suggest that you contact an Alliance member who should be able to advise you of all the intricacies.

In the meantime, I found this pdf which should help; scroll to the bottom for the fares.

Nobody did something like this?

When I flew 34000 miles last October, fare was NZ$3900.
It's since gone up though to NZ$4500.
That might give you an idea  Smile

I did from December 30, 2005 to January 17, 2006 ZRH-SIN-SYD-ICN-NRT-BKK-SIN-ZRH which is almost RTW and I paid for it CHF 4'400 incl. all taxes.

Once you plan your itinerary there is a link to submit it for a price, it takes about 1/2 a day and you will get an email with the price. The last time I used it, the fare was about $9,000 for business.

These are the greatest fare bargains around. oneworld has a similar setup with two fare structures - one based on miles, the other based on continents visited.

I just booked a oneworld RTW for the month of January: BOS-LHR-DEL-HKG-BKK-SIN-PER-MEL-LAX-BOS. I'll be flying BA, CX, QF and AA. If I remember correctly, the economy fare is about US$2000, business $8500 and first $10500. It's hard to beat the deal.

I've used oneworld's RTW many times and always look for the cheapest place to buy the ticket. CAI was the best for a long time - and well worth the stop there financially as well as interesting as someone who loves to travel.

Try flyertalk.com, look under Global Airlines Alliances and check out both Star and oneworld for the latest prices. You may find that a quick flight to buy the ticket is well worth the money.

Do you get frequent flier miles with this fare?

RTWs have been in existence for decades. My first RTW ticket was SQ/AC in F class for something like USD$ 3000 in 1984. Now it's like quraduple the price.

I did LHR-YYZ-(BUF)-(LGA)-(BOS)-IAD-MIA-SFO-AKL-NPL-WLG-SYD-AKL-NRT-LHR on *A December 2005 to February 2006. Great fun. Booked/travelled YYZ-BUF-LGA-BOS separately to get in within the 29,000mi limit. Plan on doing it again next February, firstly to see a bit of southern China and SE Asia, then family and friends in NZ, AU and USA.

All was booked direct with AC, all on an e-ticket. Direct bookings need to me made with the airline on which you'll fly your first leg.

NZ publish the fares in NZD. Always about the same as what I'm quoted by other airlines and agents.

This website has most of the pricing for most of the alliance RTW fares plus weird airline combinations (e.g., UA/EK, CO/SQ, etc)
