Quoting Ikramerica (Reply 2): Well, other than the corruption and drug running allegations (were they proven?)
I fear this may be off topic (or non-av), but...
AFAIK, the drug running allegations were not proven, simply because the man never had to stand trial. The U.S. would have liked to get their hands on him, but he still had enough power to prevent extradition.
The corruption has been proven, but he still avoided punishment, first because he still held a seat in parliament, later because he was old and ill. Nowadays, Bahamians are too brainwashed to remember both sides of the "Sir Lynden Story."
I'm an aviation expert. I have Sky Juice for breakfast.

So funny, I was in Nassau on Friday, and when we were boarding out flight ot Freeport, I saw a new sign "Lynden Pindling International Airport". I guess they unveiled the name prior to the naming ceremony. Doesn't this come 4 days too soon? After all, the Bahamas independence day is July 10, and Pindling and his PLP are the ones who campaigned for independence from Britain in 1973.

Quoting TransIsland (Thread starter): One rather sarcastic (I shall leave it up to you to decide how accurate) remark I've heard: "It's only appropriate to name the airport after Lynden Pindling... after all, nothing there works."
I think it's fitting considering the current state of the airport. I agree with TransIsland, it should have been named after an aviator, not a politician. Granted he did alot for the Bahamas but at the end of the day, he did what he was elected to do. (Not a special favour) It's not as if almost every other thing in Nassau isn't already named after him like the Subdivision near Millennium Gardens if thats not what they changed it to.
I'm just grateful that they didn't do it to FPO/MYGF, thank God it's a private airport and the Port Authoriy won't even CONSIDER doing something like that.
