Next month I'm gonna get the chance to fly on the good old 732 4 times. From Honolulo to Hilo and back, and then from Honolulu to Lihue and back. What condition are these 732's in? Im not scared that its going to crash or anything like that.

Aloha's 732's are in pretty good shape. Not as in good of shape as Hawaiian's 712's, but much better than the old Island Air Dash 8's.

All of the airports you are visiting have jetways....sometimes I have been able to climb the stairs to the rear door on Lihu'e to help expedite boarding.

The 732s are in great shape. While they don't look 'new' by any means the interiors are clean and in good shape. Sit somewhere between Row 15 and 20 to get a good view of the clamshells on landing.

Also, from HNL-ITO you can sit on the 'A' side for good views of O'ahu, Moloka'i and Maui OR on the 'F' side for an AMAZING view of the Big Island's Hamakua Coast, and numerous waterfalls. This is one of the few interisland flights with a tough to choice to make in terms of views. If you are lucky it won't be full and you can switch sides midflight to get the best of both worlds.

Enjoy Aloha, they are a GREAT airline!! If you're lucky you might get a flight on the "FUNBIRD" retrojet which is in their 1969 (ORANGE) livery!!!

I Love flying on Aloha's 732s, they feel great and still make 'airplane' sounds....which I really enjoy on such short flights  Smile

That's too bad in my case! But oh well! Ill take some pics of the clamshells and ill probably end up recording at least one landing...ill have 4 chances. Thanks for the seating advice Aloha73G! Ill try to sit between rows 15 and 20. Does Aloha assign seats or are they just up for grabs? Also I first have to get to Honolulu, which results in a flight from SFO on United. 6 flights in 7 days! Heaven!

You can choose for yourself where you want to sit, the boarding is done in Zones. There are three Zones (the Zone is printed on the boarding pass) and depending on your Zone you´ll have to wait in one of three lines during boarding. Zone one is boarding first, then Zone two and then oviously zone three. If you get a boarding pass with Zone three printed on it, go to the agent at your gate and tell him, that you are a little afraid of flying and ask if it is therefore possible to get into another zone since you need a window seat in order to relax during the flight. I did that in march when I visited Hawaii and the agents were really nice and put me in Zone two. This gives you much more choices for a good seat, since most people board in zone three.

I will give you a link to my trip report which reports about this very trip and maybe you will get an idea about Aloha and their great service.

Don't worry about being in Zone 3. Zone 1 is for Aloha's elite flyers Ali'i Gold--like me  Smile--and Ali'i Diamond. Zone 2 is for Ali'i Silver. Zone 3 is everyone else. Just get to the gate early and line up. Most everyone in Zone 1 and 2 will sit in the front since they have obviously flown alot previously and aren't as excited by the views and the clamshells.

Also, most Ali'i's fly early and late in the day (Business travelers) so if you are flyign mid day it will be mostly tourists and there will be relatively few Ali'i members.

I ahve never had a problem getting a good window seat at the back, even when I was not Ali'i Gold.

Have a great flight.

Your flights from HNL to ITO and back will be spectacular - I highly recommend you get a window seat on the same side each time.

One side will give you spectacular photo opportunities of Molokai and Maui, while the other will let you see Lana'i and Kaho'olawe as well as amazing views of the north side of the big island. Keep your camera handy!!

And as for the condition of the planes, they are all well maintained time machines - it does take you back to the early days of 737's! Old school is the word I would use.

Let us know how your trip was!!

Going to ITO ... sit on the left side. Coming back to HNL, I think it's the left.

If the winds are southerly, you may want to switch to the right side.
