I heard a rumor yesterday that United is going to close its Cargo side by some time in Dec. 00. Can anyone confirm this.

How many DC-10-30s did they have. Last I heard was only two.

Thanks,

We currently have 4 DC10-30 frieghters in service. Ships 3952, 3953, 3954, and 3859. As far as closing down our frieghter operation, I have heard two stories. First I heard that we are looking into 777 frieghters to replace the DC10-30's. I also heard that we are planning on getting rid of the DC10-30's and are not replacing them. Time will tell....

UAL Bagsmasher,

Unfortunately, time has told. The freighter op will be closed 12/24/00 and the four aircraft sold. The remaining 3(?) passenger DC10's will be pulled by 2/01.

A press release was issued yesterday.

They are going to transfer or lay off about 200 people hear at Anchorage.

I think they day they picked to stop operations kind of sucks but I do give United credit for not announcing it two weeks before like some companies have in the past.
