Hi,
I am looking for information on Afrinat International Airlines (Q9). I found their website and see that they serve west Africa. But here is why I am searching for them.
Today I was on a flight tracking website because I had to rush out to the airport to pick up a package. I saw this Q9 flight listed and had never heard of them and wondered why they would be flying in Alberta, Canada. When I change the date on the website, they show up on other dates as scheduled as well.
Here is the strange part. I went to the airport to pick up the package from our company jet. As I was walking by one of the windows, I saw a tail go by that had the Afrinat logo on it. I was completely surprised. I was walking by too quick to be able to see the a/c type or anything. I was also in a hurry to get the package and return to work so I could not go scouting around the airport.
If anyone can help me get info on why this a/c was in this region of the world and why it is apparently 'scheduled' I would appreciate it. I have searched airliners.net as well as the internet and cannot find anything.

I am surprised to hear that they are still around. I know for a fact that their web site is fiction, they do not fly in West Africa. A couple of years ago, they made a big deal about starting service from JFK-BJL-FNA, collected money from potential passengers and never really took off. Their sign at JFK was eventually removed.
As to what they are doing in Alberta, beats me. Maybe they are trying to make a "comeback" and what you saw was a leased aircraft to be delivered? If someone has more information on this, I would like to know.

That is a possibility but if you look at a period of days on the tracking site you will see they have a few scheduled flights so I have no idea. There are a lot of charter flights to/from YMM so it could be that. I am baffled.

There are a couple of aircraft painting companies in YYC, Field Aviation among the largest, and do a variety of aircraft. Perhaps the aircraft you had seen was on a delivery flight? Checking the Afrinat site, the airline seems to serve Western Africa. My only other train of thought is that the aircraft might have been doing cargo service into YYC/YEG, YYC especially has a large cargo biz.

It is also intresting to note that on the tracking site, their status is always "unknown" while all the other flights after it have "landed" I know that they were on the JFK schedule for months even though they were not flying.

I should have mentioned that the aircraft I saw was small. I mentioned that I only saw the tail but just before the tail I saw a wing with a prop on it. So I will assume it was a dual prop a/c.

I suspect this is a different 'Q9'. 2-character codes are reused and sometimes duplicated if there is no geographical confusion.
I think I can state quite categorically that Afrinat is not operating an Edmonton to Ft. McMurray service The timings suggest this might some kind of courier/package flight. Probably a Navajo - favourite for this time of work - no idea of the operator though.
