Miami Today News is reporting that Air Madrid will be flying Miami-Barcelona, which goes along with the rumours that have been said. The Barcelona flight will be routed MAD-BCN-MIA-BCN-MAD on one of Air Madrid's four weekly flights that will start 30 October 2006 pending government approval. Reservation systems (where NM has loaded flights but with 0 availability until DOT approval) still only show MIA-MAD non-stops, however.

It's about time we saw this city pair. I would think given the traffic between Miami and Spain we would have seen this some time ago. Nonetheless I am glad to see it happening.

Would Air Madrid increase the frequency if this flight does well? Once weekly wont be much use to attract the high yielding business passengers

They are not aiming at business passengers here. They aren't a business passenger oriented airline.

However, I was just told that Air Madrid's tentative schedule to MIA (which varies from the one put in the GDS) will involve 2x BCN/2x MAD. It makes sense if you look at their current schedule of SuMo / ThFr. The plane can fly MAD-MIA-BCN-MIA-MAD.

However, the Barcelona service has not been given the final green light.

I hope this one is true. NM has had many plans to start up longhaul routes out of BCN, such as BCN-SJO, which was announced in another forum yet hasn't happened after almost 2 years.

Just an update. I was able to speak to an Air Madrid rep who corrected the article for me. When service launches in the fall, it will only be MIA-MAD. However, Air Madrid does plan to begin MIA-BCN service in addition to the 4x MIA-MAD service in 2007, hopefully in time for the Barcelona tourist/cruise season which starts off in June.

In other words wishful thinking from an airline with ambitious plans... This reaks of the likes of America West in the year 1991 with Nagoya and Honolulu. A third rate Spanish airline on a low yielding route sich as MIA-BCN will suffer at best and retreat to better yielding markets...

Again, this route is not scheduled, nor has it been formally announced. As of this point this thread is based on a RUMOR

What's happening to LAX-MAD? Is it official or not?

LAX Schedule is loaded, but is already zeroed out. Not very good! This happened with AZ when the attempted to re-enter LAX in 2004, and the flight was zeroed out before it was pulled.

It is zeroed out because if they attempeted to sell ticket, they would get fined by DOT since DOT still has not given them final approval, which should come within two weeks.
