AeroMexico will begin to operate ski charters to YEG this winter. The carrier has just begun a series of charters from Mexico city to Edmonton for the summer season using 757-200s.The annoucement was made yesterday at the Edmonton intl airport by Aeromexicos canadian operations manager who was at the airport to greet the first of the summer charters. The carrier will operate a bi-weekly service from MEX-YEG starting Jan 3/07 until april 11/07 but will use 737-700s for these flights. The skiiers will then travel to Jasper for ski trips.A mexican tour operator is handelling the bookings for these flights that were promoted by travel alberta.

Guess what???I dont like you either...

Lets hope the Mexican Tourists enjoy "Chinook Season", rather than "Dead of Winter Season"...the mountains can be a bit cold at times during the winter, and Edmonton can be a deep freeze....of course, there is always WestEdmontonMall if it's too cold.... LOL!

OK, that's the negative side of things. The POSITIVE side: it's GREAT to see YEG get more int'l. traffic! YAY!

AS the Canadian go to Mexico for the heat, perhaps they are doing the opposite...to cool off!

Any chances of you guys seeing any charters also in reverse from the Dominican Republic? Besides Mexico, that is the other hot spot that is crawling with Canucks during the winter. In the USA we love making money on the over-flights!  laughing   rotfl

Edmonton wouldn't be my pick for a destination from Mexico for skiers. Calgary makes much more sense. It's a 4-hour drive from Edmonton to Jasper, where there's one good-sized ski resort at Marmot Basin.

Calgary, on the other hand, is marginally closer to Mexico city and a two-hour drive from Banff. Several major resorts -- Sunshine, Lake Louise, Norquay and the Kananaskis resorts -- are all within a similar two-hour radius of the airport.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

so what's your point??? They might as well go to Colorado...it's even closer!!

....maybe people like to see new places!!!! I think it's sickening to keep comparing Edmonton to Calgary all the time!!!

Well since it's the middle of July they obviously didn't come to ski. Chill out, guys. I'm not slagging Edmonton. I'm just suggesting that Calgary makes more sense as a jumping off point for ski excursions into the Rockies.

I've lived in Calgary and Edmonton and I like both places. But if I was running ski tours I'd run 'em out of Calgary.

No hard feelings arrow just seems that SOME people sure love bashing Edmonton and it doesnt make sense to me.The current charters are caterering to mexicans doing summer trips and yes not skiing they travel to Edmonton (mall),Jasper, and then to Ft.mcmurray(oilsands and Wood buffalo park).Similar to the ANA charters that operated this past winter. From what I understand Jasper is being promoted as the ''new'' Banff with less congestion than the latter.

Oh Yes! Who could forget the Alberta civil war (if you could call it civil when the Flames & Oilers are out on the ice!)! Kinda' like the Hatfield's getting together with the McCoy's!  bigmouth   fight

Why not Utah? It is EVEN CLOSER than Colorado! Lets get Salt Lake City and Denver going on one of these on-line battles!
