Does anyone know what a/c Swissair used between MAN and ZRH in the summers of 1992 and 1993?

I flew this route a few times, but can't remember on what!

Also, any info about that route woould be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

cheers, Phil.

I think it was the MD81. Now , though the route is operated by Swissair Express (Flightline a/c) twice a day using Bae 146-200. I would love for the proper Swissair to return to MAN using their A319/A320 a/c which they used to operate 3x Daily until the start of last winter. Im sure everyone that visits MAN regularly wants them to return too.

Most likely was an A320. SR introduced this around that date, replacing the MD80. They started a third service to MAN using the A319 in 1998, but since they lost Austrian to Star, SR said they had to resource other routes, hence the hopless 146 Fliteline service that now operates. Ex-Dan-Air 146 with an interesting attitude on punctuality. SR are aware of the shortcomings but say they are so strapped for aircraft that they 146 stays. MAN almost lost SR altogehter until this Fliteline arrangement came along (following their withdrawl from the STN-ZRH service).

Thanks Billy & GKirk.

Is there ANY chance it was an A310? For some reason, I seem to remember it being a wide-body, but I'm not totally sure!

thanks again,

cheers, Phil.

It is possible that it was the 310. I took the 310 to ZRH in 1991 and they kept that aircraft type on the route for another year. They had a few that were configured for intra-European services (basically all-economy, with the sliding curtain).

SR was finding the aircraft too difficult to fill, especially as the once/day service did not really connect in two directions, hence the MD-80 later. They were also being beaten by LH, SK, AF, SN, KL on frequency to long haul destinations so they down-sized.

It WAS an A310!!
I regularly fly that route, the flight was operated Daily by A310 until Summer 1994. For Summer 1994 it was an MD-81 on weekdays and A310s at the weekend. Summer 1995 saw an all MD-81 service. During Summer 1996 A320s gradually replaced MD-81s over several moths, and for this period the MD-81s and A320s operated side-by-side.

I wish they had the A310 again, I used to love those flights!

I believe the British Isles scondary destinations have been handed over to Sabena. Thats why only SwissaiR Express flights there.
