Last Cebu Pacific Air DC-9-30 I can find in the schedules is 5J 569/570 MNL-CEB-MNL on 26JUL. Ironically, both are available at the V fare level, PHP 568 one way.

There were a few without engines at the Cebu Pacific/SIA Engineering Company hangars in MNL last time. I believe the ex-AC ones were from late 1960s, I had the chance to fly on two 1967 ones on YYZ-YOW and YUL-YHZ a few years ago. Will be scrapped I suppose.

I've worked on RP-C1545. I started my career working on what is now RP-C1546. Its kinda sad to see these two fine birds head to the scrappers. Both of them were two of the better airplanes in my previous employer's fleet. Not that their fleet was bad but there are always some troublemakers in every fleet.

Shit that went quicker then I thought, I thought I'd be in time if I'd go to the Philippines again next year to fly a Cebu DC-9. They only have 6 or 7 A-319/320s so far and done away the 757s as well, is that enough to fly their whole schedule?
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

RP-C1545 was a nice way to say goodbye to the DC9 - not many to be had around in Asia anymore unfortunately.
"PH-DOA" had a rather modern MD-80 style Midwest Express cabin with extended bins, well kept 5J seat covers and even the toilets were decent compared to Lionair MD80s for example.
And on top of it all - this "tank" was on time compared to all 5J 319/320 flights being 1-2 hours late.
RP-C1545 also had a special window at the cockpit door, giving amazing view forward for the average pax.

That's too bad. I had a lot of great flights on the -30 (obviously not those, though). I never minded if I didn't sit in First if I could sit near the back close to the engines to hear them whine.

Have a look at Cebupacificair.com - the current schd up to 19 JUL has 2 DC9s in rotation. It looks like they'll have enough 319s by 27JUL unfortunately.
Otherwise their page states "one aircraft type in feb 2007" so I wouldn't have a clue.
I think the 757s had rather oddball routes all the time - ICN-Subic, ICN-MNL etc. And night runs to CEB (I assume for cargo).

And of course I forgot - calling our in-house football legend Partick (Sabena332)- If you have managed to nurse the football hangover yet, I'd be interested to know what DC9s you had when you did 5J. Take your time.

I'll miss those 5J DC-9s when I return to the Philippines for vacation again. The "Peach Mango Pie" A319s/A320s are definitely a welcoming site but those colorful liveries that the DC-9s touted will be missed. Thank you for more than 10 years of service to Cebu Pacific!

So will I - have to return with my wife and our son next month to finish the document authentication mess - I was very much looking forward to flying again MNL-CEB-MNL on a DC9. That's actually when I discovered they'll be gone...

In all honesty, I'm glad the 5J 9's are being replaced. Other than their specialty livery colors and occasional nostalgia, I never really did like them. For some reason, they felt tighter and more uncomfortable than NW's 9's. In fact, sometimes I would intentionally book Air Phil or PAL despite the higher fares for a 737 flight from MNL-ZAM or MNL-CEB.
Looking forward to the new A320's! This replacement project has been in the works for years now.

I'm surprised to see a DC-9 thread that doesn't mention NWA. So I guess I will bring them up. I love the DC-9 and I don't like hearing about any going away. I am flying DTW-STL on Friday and am very much looking forward to my NWA DC-9 trip. I was out at YIP the other day (Willow Run) and there were several DC-9-15s hanging about, how cool!

Quoting Falstaff (Reply 19): Nice to have an alternative to PAL. BTW, any other Pinoys out there? Sometimes I get the feeling I'm the only one here.
Having any airline available as an option other than PAL is good... not because I hate PAL, but just for competition's sake.
Btw, I'm Pinoy in Chicago. I haven't posted here in a while (my last post prior to this thread was in 2005) but have been a member since 2001... used to be a very active member of this board but work and travel have been taking up most of my time lately.
There's another member here who's Pinoy too... N751PR, I think he's in LA.

Hey...
I think it's good to see them get those knew 319/320's, though alittle sad to see the DC9s go... But hey, the livery looks really good on the buses.
Alittle off topic, I like the 5J's website more than PR's, it's cool, nice...

Does half count? Cuz then you have one here... (though not half american, but swedish)

OK, could anything get more offtopic? Well plz don't kill me for that, asking for other pinoys were also off topic...

Even 1/10 is welcome, although the net is really not the best place to be practicing your dirty words. Bread and milk are good for everybody, though.
