I was stood in my back gardent this afternoon at about 2:45, when a 747 came over, did a very tight turn and put down the undercarriage, lining up for EMA.

It was white and I think it had red on it's tail.

Does anyone know what it was? Is it a regular visitor to EMA?

I have never seen a 747 on approach to EMA in the last 5 yrs or so.Last one I saw was an RAM 744 that flew over my house on a positioning flight from MAN one year on its way into EMA.Largest I see is the UPS 767 on approach most nights at 7.55pm, lands at 8.05pm

I called into the Aeropark on a trip home from Nottingham about 4 weeks ago and there was a Kalitta Air 747 parked up in the DHL area then.

Even though 747's at EMA are not common place, I think yiu will find the airport haqs more than their fair share of visitors. EMA is one of busiest cargo airports in the country.

It departed again for AMS at 16:45 from where it subsequently later departed at 22:00 bound for BAH.

Thanks for that. It was certainly a nice sight over Allestree!

We have a fair share of cargo flights over our house in the evenings. Plenty of DHL, UPS and TNT.

Does the 747 come in every Saturday?

Hi EMAlad,

I do believe the 747 comes in every Saturday. The last time I saw her land was the Saturday that England played Portugal (about a fortnight ago). Landed about 1300.

I was in Long Eaton on Wednesday night when a Lufthansa Cargo MD-11 banked sharply overhead to line up around the power station. Unbelievably low as well.

Always good to see these types of aircraft in this neck of the woods.

Ringway.

I will look out for her in future lol.

I can't believe how low the planes come on over allestree in the evening. Are all of the cargo planes from the US?

I counted at least 10 between 9 and 10pm the other night, plus those going over us into Manchester. The binoculars are always out lol

Yes, I'm always looking out for the ones heading to Manchester, esepcially in the early evening sky.

I seem to recall that the Antonovs used to come in on a Monday evening into EMA, but I'm not sure which days it's been coming in recently. Now that would be a sight to see over Allestree.

I saw it about 6 months ago banking sharply over Loughborough getting ready to line up and land. Quite a sight.

are you in derby then ringway?

I love looking at the ones flying over us and trying to work out where the they are going with my step-son lol. We seem to be in a very good place to spot.

I'm in Castle Donington so we get the best of both here. I took your tip and have had the binocs in the garden all day today. Seen some that are quite high and not that easily recognisible. Can usually spot the high-level BA LHR - GLA / EDI shuttles and also the Easyjet/Ryanair LON - Scotland services but there are some that I cannot determine quite easily.

Also like seeing the high-altitude midday/early afternoon transatlantics heading north-north west.

I manage to see quite clearly the flights going into Man/Liv/Leeds, etc....

Plenty of FR and EZY plus some Jet2. Can make out BA flights and often type of A/C lol.

Seems there are more planes this end of Derby.

Do they follow the M1? lol
