What will Boeing do with the 737 line? They already have 737-100,737-200,737-300,737-400,737-500,737-600,737-700,737-800,737-900. Can they expand on those or are they finished expanding. No 737-1000 coming up I'm sure.

You might want to do a search (both here, on Flight Global and on Google) for "Y1" and "737RS".

In a nutshell, Boeing is looking at a new narrowbody. It will use new engines. It will probably have a wider fuselage than the 737 (some speculation that it may be 2-2-2 or even 2-3-2 in Y, but this is by no means a certainty). It will almost certainly make heavy use of 787 technology, including extensive use of CFRP.

Boeing will more than likely announce solid plans and start taking orders towards the end of this decade or the beginning of the next, for an entry into service between 2013-2015. Obviously that time frame could be brought forward or pushed back, depending on availability of technology and workforce.

In the short term, they are developing a 737-700ER, which uses features from the BBJ to offer an extended range 737-700, and a 737-900ER, which will feature a higher MTOW than the 737-900, allowing either greater range, or more passengers with the addition of another door.
