I departed DAL on 7/16 on COex. While waiting in the terminal I noticed across the airport at Associated Air Service (name may be incorrect) there was a DC-9-10 sitting over there. It was far enough away that I could not read the markings on it. It's getting rare to see one of these great planes. Does anyone have some info on it. Thanks

Associated Air Center (Landmark Aviation FBO) receives the majority of charter flights into DAL. I didn't see it on Sunday, but my guess is that it was a sports charter (the Texas Rangers 727 and Dallas Mavericks 757 are both on that side of the airport).

USA Jet has been flying a few DC-9-10's into DAL lately, that might possibly be what you saw? Red/white/blue/gray colors...?

I was also at DAL this weekend on COex.

I believe that you are correct. I noticed it on Friday and was suprised that it was still there on Sunday.

Does anyone else find it odd that the Rangers (who play more games a season and have a much larger roster) have a smaller airplane than the Mavericks, albeit only a slightly smaller airplane?

This is based on the 727-200: max seating 189 (which I'm sure isn't the Rangers configuration), and the 757-200: max seating 214-239 (not the Mavs configuration). Figures are from the A/C data and history section of this site.

Most times, a CO 737-800 is used to transport the Astros.

For your info, the Mavericks 757 N801DM is no more, or at least it won't be in that color scheme any longer. It's been flown up to Kelowna, BC for repainting and winglet installation. Been up there for about 3 weeks now.

Correct, it was N199US. Departed to AUS late Monday.

There was a white body and the tail had some blue design. I believe there was a blue stripe cheat line. I think what you're describing is it. Thanks for your help.

Reply #4 described it well. The tail had a blue design on it and there appeared to be a blue stripe. I wish that I could have gotten a better view. I thought we were going to use that runway. As we taxied out they crossed over to the otherside. Generally when I fly COex we never go over to the otherside for take off. I flew back last night 7/18 and they DC-9-10 was gone.

Well I wasn't that smart. I think they use reg as part of the flight number. It was JUS199.

If you are ever around Willow Run Airport (YIP) in Michigan drop by and see some DC-9-15s. You sure don't see them everyday. There are some DC-9-30s around too and they are getting harder to come by.

Hey Falstaff,

Being the idiot I'm some times, I just moved May 1st from the DTW area after being up there for two years and never went to YIP. I knew about it and always put it off as on of those I'll do it one of these days. I didn't realize they were using these as freighters. I plan on a DTW visit in a few months and will get my rear over there this time. Thanks

Steve

I know what you mean. I lived in the DTW area for six years before I ever spent any time there. I missed out, they have some cool stuff over there. I was there last Friday and saw plenty of DC-9s, several DC-8s, a 727, several Electras, plus I couple of planes that I did not know what they were. I have seen other classics too but there are allways DC-9s and DC-8s there.
