These are just stories, or folklore. I was really bored at school one day and started reading about Eastern 401. It was an entertaining story so I bought a copy of "The Ghost of Flight 401," for 99 cents at Amazon.com. I found the stories about Repo to be entertaining, but there is no proof! The author mentions that the appearence of F/E Repo on a TWA flight was published in a Flight Safety (I think) article back in the 70s. I went to their site and found nothing. I just think this is the aviation type of folklore kind of like nautical myths like Davy Jones. However, if I am ever doing a cross country at night by myself in my 172 Repo is more than welcome to drop by and keep me company!

About two months ago I had two ex-Reno Air flight attendants on one of my flights.
They began to tell me a story about one time while working in the aft galley on one of the MD-80s. The one flight attendant was standing in the aisle slightly, the other was in the galley. A large man came walking down the aisle (presumably to use the lavatory). The flight attendant in the aisle stepped into the galley, smiled at him and said hello as he passed.
Neither flight attendant saw the man exit the lavatory and they became suspicious. They searched the entire cabin with the third and fourth flight attendants for this gentleman and never found him. He wasn't in any passenger seat. And all of the lavatories were unoccupied. He was an apparation.
Apparently, it happens.
BTW - I know MD-80s usually have three flight attendants on them. Apparently Reno Air would put a 4th F/A on the RNO-SJC segments. Anyone know why? Was this for crew movement?

Eastern 401 is a story that has fascinated me since I was a kid. As for the stories of ghosts haunting EA's L1011 fleet, it's fun to discuss but I don't take them too seriously. There are stories however from other carriers of the period that flew the L1011 (of which some cannibalized parts from 401 were sold to), who's cabin crews reported seeing spirits.

Differant airlines used differant staffing depending on the amount of service provided, (hot meal) or short flight with beverage service. At TWA we usually staffed the MD-80 with 4 flight attendants.

It's funny you bring this up now. Last night I met a former Eastern F/A and somehow this subject came up. She knew Don Repo, and his wife, and said that although she personally never saw him in the spirit form, "several" of her good friends did and she believed them! She said that most of her friends saw him in the oven window.
The TWA sightings were on L1011's leased from Eastern.
