ok, i really like the dc-10 dont get me wrong. but they are old, mechanics who work on the d10s in houston say they wouldnt fly the 10s as far as Brazil, they wouldnt feel comfortable flying it cause of the maintnance on them, the flights from iah-gru, which are one of the few international flights left from houston, on the 10s are delayed almost everytime the flight departs b/c of maintnance, or if not delayed, Cancelled. people who fly this route frequently, such as business travellers arrive @ the departure gate and flat out ask, how long is the delay? the 10 is great, but they are becoming too old. the DC-10s flying out there are always plagued w/ maintnance problems. i cant wait till CO puts the 767 on the IAH-GRU route in December.

I flew 2 CO DC-10-30's in the Hawaii configuration, they were the cleanest 10's (inside and out) that I have ever seen. My only gripe was the comfort level in coach was nothing to write home about. To Delta777-XXX, I guess your airline DL treats the L1011 like its the queen of the fleet, anyhow how do you "think" they treat the 10 like crap?

Adam84... I was just being difficult... sorry.
But... if you think about it... you find more people scared to fly DC-10s than L-1011s. Delta has done a great job with the L-1011 if you ask me. MOST people enjoy their Delta L-1011 flights. Continental just suks if you ask me. Just my opinion though. The CEO really pisses me off. He thinks he some kind of a big shot or something. The paint scheme is boreing too... but that doesn't have anything to do with it.

CO's DC-10s, although old, are in much better condition then some of NW's old DC-10-40's. All of CO's DC-10's will be gone in another year, they are being replaced by 762's, 764's, and 777's.
Personally, I like CO's livery. It looks really nice, and especially nice on the 777 and 764. And don't even start about Gordon Bethune. He has done great things for that airline. CO was one of the crappiest airlines up until a few years ago. He's really turned them around.

Cba, you don't say? Co has been turned around and used to be one of the crappiest airlines???? Boy I guess my head has been stuck in a cave! AND GUESS WHAT, YOU "PERSONALLY" LIKE CO'S LIVERY!!!!!! Because if you "professionally" liked CO's livery than.......oh the insanity that would cause!
Now about CO's route map.....if they bought Alaska, Airtran, and Reeve Aleutian, err add Pakistan Int'l to the mix, than we'd really see a world class carrier take shape!

Continental is and will always be a crappy airline in my mind!
Although back to the DC-10. I used to hate it... but now it's not so bad. It is still not on my favorite's list... but it seems like a good airplane.
Gordon Bethune... hmm.... he is an @$$. The "recent comments" that he made did kinda make me mad,but he seems kinda... i dunno. I don't know him so... i shouldn't be judging him. But by what I have heard... he is not someone that I would like.

Why can't you people act like civilized adults and stop bashing one another. We are all entitiled to our opinions, but can't we state them in a more professional, diplomatic way. I have flown CO, delta, NW, TWA, UAL, Hawaiian, and Aloha. I have had good services and bad services on all of them--which is mainly flight crew dependent. I flew HNL to LAX on Delta and back to HNL recently, with excellent service to LAX and lousy service back to HNL. The L-10ll broke down at Salt Lake City, and the flight was cancelled. Waited in LAX for the last flight home. Delta didn't even offer me the option of putting me on a different carrier. Flew NW on the same route as well. On the way back to HNL, the plane broke down, and I was offered the option of going on Hawaiian or wait for the next available NW flight to HNL. I have flown CO to EWR from HNL, EWR to FLL, FLL to Houston, back to HNL. The planes all left on time, including the DC10-30 to EWR and Houston to HNL. I also noted that the HNL to EWR service was much better than Houston to HNL, due to a grumpy flight attendant. I also had the same experience on Hawaiian and UAL. The only airline that I have flown on which provided consistently good service was SQ.
So guys, keep cool. Stop bad mouthing one another. You are entitled to your opinions, and if you state them diplomatically and tactfully, this website would be a much nicer place to visit.

How long was the IAH-HNL leg? When I flew it in June we left about 25 minutes late (not a mechanical delay), yet we got into HNL about 30 mins early. Anyhow on my flight there was a flight attendant that didnt seem to be to happy about her job, she wasnt rude or anything, she just looked and sounded very very unhappy.

Some of the comments posted here, particularly those by Delta 777-XXX are totally incoherent and really not
very well thought out or factually correct.
Continental's DC10-30's (all 24 of them) are old and
do require more maintenance, but the airline spent a
lot of time upgrading interiors and comfort levels on
them. These are some of the cleanest DC10's you
will ever fly on. As for their realibility, they are some
of the best performers in the Continental system.
I recently flew a DC10-30 from Houston to Newark
and again from Houston to London/Gatwick. Both
flights were on time, trouble free as far as any
maintenance goes, and perfectly comfortable and
The DC10's will be aggressively replaced one for
one by the 767-400's, and 767-200's as well as
2 more 777's.
It's your priviledge not to like an airline as well
as to state it, but at least know what you are
talking about before you make bold statements!
The Houston-Sao Paolo flight has an 85% on
time record according to many internet travel
websites that measure these things. You can
also check with the airline (no one ever really
does) but they are required to tell you. That
is pretty good. After all, in a difficult summer
exacerbated by greedy pilots and an over-
stretched system, Continental achieved the
best on-time performance, even improving
it from the year before, over all US airlines,
including pesky little Southwest.
