American Airlines cacelled all operations at LGA today due to a power failure at their terminal. Some flights late today were operated in/out JFK. A EWR flight AA558, was upgraded to a 777 to handle the shift of traffic.

This whole situation blows. I'm sitting right now at EWR, was supposed to fly UA from EWR-IAD-OAK; Noticed flight getting late from EWR-IAD so transferred to direct EWR-SFO. Boarded flight, but the flight was under gate hold for 1 hr, then 2 hr, then 3 1/2 hr... now evidently 80 planes sitting on tarmac waiting to head out. So, in addition to all the LGA diversions to EWR, we're having severe thunderstorms which are delaying flights > 5 h. At this rate I'll be lucky if we make it to California tonight!

AA558 (772) is coming from DFW to EWR... I bet that flight had some open seats!

EWR situation unrelated to the LGA power problems. EWR delays due to big storms in the N90/ZNY airspace. Departure delays at EWR regularly reach 180 mins. in these situations.

BIG storm here in the tri-state area. Lots of thunder, lighting, and periods of rain for the past hour or so. Not at all unusual for the season though...

Not only are LGA and EWR a mess - so is JFK.

The ATC Zero situation at ZLA might also be contributing to delays.
