Hello all,
Today I was working ramp and amid all the great things diverting to SLC from LAX and LAS while they had their radar down, I saw a DL 777 parked at the main Delta hangar. I was wondering if anyone had any information on this, because this is obviously not a normal thing to see in SLC. Thanks!
Devin B.

It was not an LAX diversion. DL354 ATL-SLC, normally a 764, basically had a total meltdown with a mechanical and all kinds of other problems, and a 777 was swapped in. The 777 is overnighting in SLC tonight and will go back to ATL tomorrow morning as DL410. Appropriately, it is Ship 7005, the Soaring Spirit.
It's a new day. Every moment matters. Now, more than ever.

Holy crap, I think I'm going to cry.
I'm assuming it was a diversion from the LAX-LHR run?

Thanks DeltaSFO. I knew it couldn't be a LAX diversion as it was already there before the diversions started to roll in. Thanks for the help though, it was sure great to see that here.

It's just too bad this is news-worthy. I remember back in the 1990s when DL L1011s were a widebody-staple in SLC...now that was a sight. Now a stragler 777 is "the sight"...how times change.
Ding! You are now free to keep supporting Frontier.

Well DIA I see what your saying. But the numerous 764's we get in here are now our "widebody-staple". They are very common every day just as the L-1011's were. I sure wish we had some of those around still dont get me wrong! And as for the 777, it is too bad we dont see that as commonly as we would like.

I agree, seeing a few more triple-7s would make being out at SLC much more fun and be a reminder of the Tri-Star days when an hour or two of plane spotting would usually fetch at least one L-1011. Until DL gets a few more in their fleet, it will only be a substitute, charter or diversion.

Especially DC CRJ-100s. SLC must be the the prime airport for these cramped up little passenger compactors!

Choke, cough, choke.... Yes, ATL has more CRJ a/c movements than CVG, but much higher ratio of DL coded flights are on CRJ because DL has much more mainline operations at ATL... Choke.. Could you pass me some water?

How true.. I know how it is in STL these days, when AA subs a 767-300 for a 757 all the locals get a big stiffie and think about the "old days", when TW would have 6-8 747, 767 and L10's lined up on C Concourse.....lol
