I just logged onto to KMOV CBS 4 and indeed they did confirm a portion of the roof off at Lambert that landed on I-70. Sounds like they had quite a storm move through the STL area

According to the Mayor part of the the airport has power and is running at 1/3 capacity.
One terminal lost a 16' section of the roof.

Just to be sure -- Is this the Main Terminal at STL?
60 foot section of roof from a temporary building near the East Terminal. Power is out in the Main Terminal. 350,000 people without power and a possible tornado touchdown near Jefferson Barracks and 270.

Yes that photo is of the main terminal that is the architectural icon of the airport. The southwest terminal is the "East terminal" that was opened about a decade ago.

How are things going there this morning?

I just spent a while Googling to try to find out when exactly the East terminal was opened. My earliest recollection of it was when my cousin was about 3 and I was 17, making it about 1993.

The power was restored at the airport about 3a.m. It looks like the airport is running as normal. I haven't heard anything about the damage causing any problems. I just feel really bad for all the people in the St. Louis area. It is going to be one of the hottest days of the year and there are still about 400,000 people with out power. You can go to Ksdk.com, they have pictures of the damage at the airport and around the area.

Quoting N702ML (Reply 12): I have a Jet America Airlines timetable dated December 15, 1986 that reads:
Effective February 1, 1987, Jet America will move to the more convenient East Terminal located at the end of Concourse D.
So....is the East Terminal at least that old?
The East Terminal has been around for 21 years. Ever since the D Concouse open. It wasn't anything to wirte home about. It was small, and that is where Southwest check in counters were. (Plus another INS customs hall)
Though it looked like the end of D councourse, with a parking lot.
The current east terminal building was open in late 1997. I think construction started in 1995.

If my recollection is correct, the East Terminal opened in two phases. The original East terminal is now the charter / IAB gates. The building that SWA is now in is the 'new' east terminal. I believe this building opened in 1995 / 1996.

Correction some, the original east terminal, are E-29, E-31 and E-33.
The new east terminal which houses Southwest Airlines, E-2-E25 was completed and service started may 5th, 1998.

I was in STL Wednesday night during all that, staying about 10 miles from STL itself. Heck yeah the weather was horrible but not that bad where I was, was sitting on a sun porch taking in the wind and mist since there was no power. The power loss has been updated to 500,000.
