I'm guessing that the replacement aircraft will be 787's as AA are known to have problems with Airbus. I would imagine we'll see 762's for a long time yet. Hope this was helpful
P.S. It was a 767 that was in an engine fire a couple of weeks ago but I think it was a 763 but i'm not sure
They almost 100% exclusively fly the LAX-JFK TransCons. However, they do fly to a few other places out of JFK.
JFK-BDA (Bermuda)
JFK-MIA (only 1x a day on a 762)
JFK-SFO (1x on a 762, rest are 763)
Quoting BA787 (Reply 3): Quoting LY777 (Reply 2):Do the 762s have the new Boeing interior?
im not an expert but no I dont think so
No, they do not. The 763's are all Biz/Coach class now, but the 762's still have the First/Biz/Coach arrangement.
767-200
767-300
Quoting BA787 (Reply 3): especially as they are slowly taking them out of the fleet
Not so, at least yet. They don't have enough 763's or 757's to fully take up the slack of getting rid of the remaining 762's, especially since the ex-TW 757's are going to be returned not too long from now.

This is correct, it was a 762, and here is the plane you're looking for:

This one was used for testing anti-aircraft technology and will be returned to the desert after all the testing is complete, if it hasn't already been done.

I thought so too, rumors, however, have swirled around that they may be repairing it. I also think these 762s are important for charter operations. I think they are one of the more frequently chartered aircraft. I may be wrong though...

Interesting! But what happened to N339AA? And N340AA does not exist in the actual 762 fleet at American. I don't think any 767-200 at American was ever regiestered N340AA. I flew on N339AA back in March from JFK to SFO.
A few months back there was an article in Airways about the scrapping of American 767-200's, for those of you who subsribe to Airways it was in the issue of Nov 2005. Indeed there were pictures of N301AA and N302AA removed indefinitely from service. N301AA was, according to the aritcle, the 8th 767 built by Boeing.

All the American 767-200s ever built aren in my production list according to planespotters.net. Unless N301AA was a -300 or it was a -200 and my site got it wrong.
