In the past few years SCL lost a number of european legacy carriers. KL, left after almost 60 yrs of operations back in 2002. BA, AZ even LH is now gone. In return SCL has gained Swill (LX) and Air Madrid. Would BA or KL go back?

Maybe BA will return to SCL since it and LA are both members of One World. There is probably enough demand for these two airlines to pool resources and make this route profitable. KL probably won't return anytime soon because it can transfer its SCL-bound passengers to AF. I expect that LH will return to SCL some day. I doubt AZ will resume service to SCL until its financial position greatly improves. Perhaps new aircraft, such as the A350 or 787, will make it more profitable for European airlines to add or improve service to SCL.

Pretty sure that KLM won't return to SCL as long as its Air France tie up exists. Air France is planning to eventually serve SCL year round with a daily nonstop flight and the company is progressively phasing in those frequencies. Next winter season will see AF operate 5 weekly nonstops.

Maybe as a tag-on to its added frequency to GRU? BA operates daily LHR-GRU-GIG/EZE, and will add 3 additional weekly flights which could continue to SCL.

Rgs,

The additional GRU frequencies will operate as daylight southbound sectors so there will be very little ground time in GRU before the return to LHR and as such no time for an additional tag on.

AFAIK, LH is keeping the flight seasonal. I don't know the precise timetable, but when it's low season, the flight is on LX metal through GRU and in the high season, it's an LH flight again. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

It seems like the SCL flight will remain on LX metal throughout the busy winter season. LH526/527 FRA-GRU-SCL will apparently not return next winter with the introduction on the new LH504/505 MUC-GRU service.
