Kudos to the Iron Maiden Singer. A class individual along with the crew.

21/07/06

HEAVY metal star Bruce Dickinson was returning to Britain last night after airlifting 200 Beirut evacuees to safety.

The Iron Maiden singer, also a professional pilot, flew a Boeing 757 to Cyprus, where the Brits had fled to escape the violence.

After touching down at RAF Akrotiri on the Med island, Bruce waited for the fully-boarded plane to be re-fuelled before being given clearance to fly back to Gatwick.

The mercy mission was the idea of the rocker, whose Iron Maiden hits include Run To The Hills and Sanctuary.

Dad-of-three Bruce, 47, is a first officer with London-based charter airline Astraeus.

A colleague said: "He was only too keen to get involved and help. He has a strong interest in the welfare of people caught up in international conflicts and cares about what is going on."

The first Brits to flee war-torn Lebanon, mostly women and children, had landed at Gatwick airport yesterday looking exhausted but relieved.

By yesterday more than 1,000 Brit nationals and dual nationals had been ferried to safety in Cyprus by Royal Navy ships in the biggest war zone evacuation since Dunkirk in the Second World War.

Way to go Bruce. I loved Iron Maiden back in the late 80's. Strange change of jobs for a band singer. Good Luck Bruce and bring back more home safely.

He's still in the band, actually. He flies for Astraeus when Iron Maiden isn't on tour or recording.

For your information. Last year Bruce Dickenson flew his "Bruce Air" 757 from London Gatwick to Dublin, Ireland & Keflavic, Iceland.

The aircraft was effectively "chartered" by Iron Maiden fans to see... Iron Maiden... After Bruce & the band performed on stage he then flew the fans back to the UK.

More "Bruce Air" flights are planned for this year.

Lew, if you read this, tell Bruce that he is not just a kick ass musician, but an excellent human being.

Wow. Few artists show that much dedication to their fans. Especially a band like Iron Maiden, they've been around for ages and made enough money that would allow them to just sit on their arses doing nothing if they wanted to... but they're still going strong just for the love of music and their fans. Also, the fact that a guy like Bruce Dickinson actually works for an airline shows how dedicated he is to flying. He doesn't need to do it as a job, he could just fly his own plane for leisure, but instead he goes and hauls people around in 757s. What a great guy. Big grin

In Maiden's Rock In Rio DVD, it shows what the band did in their spare time in Brasil. Bruce went and flew in Varig 777 simulator and some fencing.

I think that was their 747-300 sim. I don't think RG owns a 777 simulator, as they used to send their pilots to train on the UA sims in the USA.
