Disappointing that United came out of Chapter 11 with more work to do. They managed a small net margin 2.7%. (which would have been 1.8% if didn't have accumulated losses on the books and were charged income taxes)

They are expected to report 260 million dollars worth of profit. That's somewhat on par with what American posted. In my opinion that's not small fries.

No it sure is not... Say, when is US supposed to make their quarterly earnings/losses statement? (I am sure they'll post a profit as well...) Eh you know, I'll start a thread about this so as to not hijack this thread...

You know what, I will answer my own question: they'll post a profit on thursday according to an article in the Chicago Times...

That's the operating profit so it would not include millions in interest expense and income taxes. Their net profit was 141 Mil excluding 1x items.

While UA still has work to do, it finally is great to see them post a profit.

For Q2, AMR's operating profit was $476 million while net profit was $291 million. As Artie mentioned, this compares to approx. $260 million and $141m respectively at UA.

Based on this, AA's operating margin for Q2 was just under 8% while UA's is estimated at about 5.1%.

I'm with you ORDTerminal! I think $141 is pretty damn good, especially since they posted a pretty steep loss just last quarter. It seems as if they worked very hard to turn around as much as possible in the 2nd quarter. Hopefully this will be just the beginning of successful quarters to come for UAL and the industry in general!
