Last I heard was that the new international terminal at San Francisco would open Sept. 25, 2000. Is that still true? I even heard that they might call the airport "Joe Di Maggio". Can anybody give me any info please?

As of now, the full opening of the terminal has been set back somewhat.
The first flight operating from the new terminal occurred last week, a Skyservice USA DC-10 departed from Concourse G for a charter flight to Hawaii. This was to work out all the bugs in the new terminal before the full opening. Flights will be phased in over the next 6 weeks.
As for the Joe DiMaggio name, that was some bull that his lawyer brought up after his death, as the lawyer didn't believe that naming several parks where he played as a kid after him, the lawyer wanted to either rename SFO or the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge. Both cases are highly unlikely.

The terminal is scheduled to open in November or December. And on the same day of that first Skyservice flight, my United 777 flight from Paris parked at the new terminal. I think we were parked at gate 102. We deplaned using two jetways and were escorted for a short time into the terminal. We were led down some stairs to some waiting buses to take us to the old international terminal for customs. It was great because I got a sneak peek at the new terminal (looks really great) and I got a few pictures of my plane (N782UA) from the ramp as I boarded the bus! Pictures from a different perspective...UNDER the plane!

I was there on Saturday, and I saw a SkyService DC-10. I came back later that day, and to my surprise two Continental 737NG were parked there. The jet ways were brought up to the planes, and the cabin lights were on inside of the -800.

It's still going to be there, the question is will it be international still.
There are two rumors circulating at work:
1)
We're among the carriers that are moving from the South Terminal to there. Basically it's supposed to take those few international carriers (Air Canada, Alitalia) that don't currently fly out of the IT, except Cathay, which will go to the New IT, as well as those international carriers that won't or can't pay the high rent of the New IT.
2)
American Airlines will move from E to the old IT, and either United will take Concourse E and expand operations at SFO and we take gates 76-78 (currently UA Shuttle) so we can get United's services on the ramp. Or we will be among the airlines that will move to E. We can still get UA service on the ramp (much cheaper than CO) and when dumb pax check in with us for a codeshare operated by UA, we don't have to send them running all the way to the other end of the airport, just next door.
