UA Flights Stopping In ORD - Allowed To Get Off?

My dad is booked on direct flights from MSP to YYZ stopping in ORD on UA, flights 1104 & 1101. My question is, is he allowed to get off in ORD to walk around, get food, etc.?

yes, but since the incoming flight will be late and the connection time short anyway he will barely have time to go to the restroom! unless of course the departure is delayed, which it will be also!  Wink welcome to ORD!

You should be aware that many flights, even though they may have the same flight number do not necessarily indicate the same plane!

And whether or not it is the same plane, you are most welcome to leave the plane...just be sure you take your boarding pass with you, so you can get back on the plane!!

Yes, as long as he has his boarding pass. However, there usually isn't much time. Plane comes in, people get off, cleaners quickly come through to pick up trash and tidy up, then boarding begins. I've noticed that UA is really trying to keep its planes in the air more and on the ground less a la WN.

This is very true.....ussually they'll call the flight "UA flight number XXX to ORD continuing with service YYZ" but if it is not going to be the same plane they'll anounce it before landing "We'll be arriving in gate XXX and the flight to YYZ will depart from gate XXX" Ussually they try to put the gates together to avoid people missing or having to run across terminals.

Either way just make sure he has his boarding pass all the time.

BUZZZZ.

He's flying MSP-ORD-YYZ . . . he will have time to get off if he desires and the schedule permits.

On the return, if it's the same route in reverse YYZ-ORD-MSP, he'll clear US Customs in YYZ before getting to ORD . . . he can still get off to see ORD when they arrive, but not for the reason you indicate.

He couldn't stay on even if he wanted to. They have to clean and perform another security check. You cannot have any pax onboard during that. So yes, he HAS to get off the aircraft and walk around...or run since his next flight will be leaving from the north side of B and your on the south side of C with 15 mins to get there since the inbound was held up due to a ground hold and weather delay haha.

It is the same plane, but I guess for a 50 minute layover it wouldn't be worth it to get on and off. Maybe he'll just upgrade to E+ if he can.

On flights from Canada to the USA, customs and immigrations is done at the originating airport, so it just arrives in the USA like a domestic flight.

Also if you stated correctly there are 2 different flight numbers, so if he is coming in from MSP on one flight and departing on another, then he would have to get off.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. 1104 is going to YYZ, and 1101 is going to MSP. At any rate, I called UA, and they said that if the flights operate as scheduled, he should be able to get off for 20 to 30 minutes if he wanted to.

I have gone through US Customs at ORD over 60-70 times and not once had I had a problem, even in 2-7pm European rush hour. Any basis for this rip on T5?

From YYZ you clear US customs on YYZ. So you do not go to to T5 in ORD.

I'll take customs at ORD anyday over JFK or LAX!
