GOL To Fly To Chile & Mexico!

Just read a press release on Panrotas.com.br that GOL will be flying to Chile and Mexico by year's end. Chile will be served initially through EZE, and Mexico through an yet undecided South American stop-over.

GOL still has 12 new aircraft to be delivered this year.

I think that's fantastic news. Great to see GOL expanding internationally!!

GOL is now taking the place left by RG. It's a shame to see this happen (RG collapse) but I wish the best of luck to GOL, which I'm pretty sure will do a terrific job filling RGs in some places.

I guess GRU-BOG-MEX, just as RG used to have might be a nice way to go if you have a stop over............time will tell.

I'm crossing my fingers for a CCS stop. Bye bye to MX's and RG's monopolies and their high fares in the CCS-MEX & CCS-GRU markets.

Nice! Good news... are you sure its MEX? Couldn't it be CUN? I'm thinking on BRAZIL-BOG-MEXICO. I see CCS less feasible as bilateral agreemtens are far more restricted!

This sounds really cool!!!

Maybe finally flying between Mexico and South America will stop being so bloody expensive. It would be nice to see more reasonable fares for flights within our Latin American continent, so that we can get closer to South America.

I believe CCS has more chances, as long as bilaterals allow carrying passengers between CCS and MEX. Otherwise it would be BOG.

Bilaterals in Colombia aren't too liberal either. For instance, GOL would only be able to exercise fifth freedom rights between BOG and MEX 2 times a week.

Additionally, BOG-MEX has three carriers. I doubt GOL would be much interested in being the fourth. Anything could happen though.

The CCS flight will happen, there are already G3 pilots certified for this flight. However, I cannot guarantee that CCS will be the stop of the MEX flight.

I didn't specify any cities, just Mexico. The article didn't specify any cities, not even SCL; but I would assume the services are to SCL and MEX, though I agree and also thought about CUN as a possible destination.

What kind of extra certification is needed for this flight?

One thing is right, their business model does not allow a big flight like GRU-BOG or GRU-CCS. If this flight come true, will be MAO-BOG-MEX or MAO-CCS-MEX. But even a flight thru UIO is a possibility.

SCL flight will begin probably on August 12, with the first 737-800 (PR-GTA) received directly from Boeing. This aircraft has improved oxygen capacity that allows the flight over the Andes (the other GOL aircraft only allows 12 minutes of oxygen, and in an emergency procedure, it could be not enough) with more safety.

This new aircraft (GTA) will be knew on Gol fleet as the SFP (Short Field Performance) as this probably will be used on the near future on the high-yield market Rio-Sao Paulo Shuttle Service (SDU-CGH).

The first route to SCL will be GIG-GRU-EZE-SCL. Other two will come.

Together with this new bird, GOL will celebrate it's maintenance base at CNF, to be inaugurated on next friday (August 4).

Rumors that Gol is really looking for US flights, not during 2007 but probably during 2008. I couldn't confirm this yet.

Concerning to Venezuela and Colombia, there's a dispute between Gol and Ocean Air... probably Gol will fly to CCS and Ocean Air to BOG.

Other domestic bases like IOS and CFB: the beginning of the flights has been postponed as the runway improvements are delayed.

They will surely stop at MAO or BSB for the MEX flight... And will take a time before they fly non-stop to Chile...

My bet..

GIG-GRU-(BSB)MAO-MEX
GIG-GRU-VVI-LIM
GIG-GRU-EZE-SCL
GIG-GRU-MAO-CCS

Maybe G3's Latin America expasion will make MAO a very important hub for them..

I really think they should start thinking about a 777 or 787.. Costantino said on it's last interview that they like the 777 and 787 a lot, and are considerng it's purchase...

Yes, as minority shareholders. However, there are legal issues because one of the Mexican shareholders is prevented from owning more than a certain percentage of an airline's capital stock since he is also a shareholder of ASUR, an airport operator (part of the control group) and the other Mexican shareholder apparently no longer wants to participate (or wants to participate to a lesser extent). Who knows what will come of that.

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

I say by mid-2008. Tough competition or not, they aren't going to be flying GRU-MIA, so what's the difference?

They can fly MIA-MAO daily and MIA-BEL daily with 73Gs.

The first 737-800 with winglets from Boeing (on their huge 101 firm + options order). It's a brand new aircraft.

A BEL-MAO-MIA-BEL seems to be a very good flight. A better option for markets like FOR, SLZ, NAT, THE and MCP to reach the US.

Well the range wouldn't be a problem at all:

GIG/GRU 210 mi
GRU/MAO 1671 mi
MAO/MEX 3069 mi
TOTAL: 4950 mi

Why would hotness or altitude be a problem for a 73G??
