Just checking the UA website for Dec flights back home to SFO and I noticed that as of Oct 10th, they've added a late night flight (8:50pm) and UA has combined its 5:30 and 7:00pm flights into a 6:10 departure. What do you thinks this means? I know AA also has either 7 or 8 flights per day to LAX, is this a matter of overcapacity? Any thoughts are welcome!

To me it just looks like they pushed the flights leaving JFK later back. This might be because it is being demanded. And traditionally I would assume that UA does better on JFK-SFO and AA does better on JFK-LAX.

United's PS757s have a capacity far lower than the mainline 757s. Operating 7-8 757s with a capacity of 110 is not that much capacity. AA also have 762s, which aren't that large to begin with. New York and Los Angeles are the two biggest cities in the United States. Sure they are over 2000 miles apart, but they are both significant. If you compare air travel between the New York and Los Angeles airports to flights between major cities in Australia (Qantas has hourly service with mostly widebodies between SYD and MEL), Japan, Spain, Germany and many other countries, 20 flights between LAX and JFK isn't that much. Now when you fact or in jetBlue and Continental too, there is a lot more capacity.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

Looks like United is simply dropping the extra frequency LAX UA26&31 which has been operating Mon/Wed/Fri. Otherwise the other current 7 LAX-JFK flights remain, while SFO-JFK seems to continue with the current 6 daily frequencies with only small changes shifts in departure time.
Really no big deal.

No, no LAXINTL, UAL is adding a seventh daily fight to SFO ( the late dearture) . Maybe not a big deal for someone keeping an eye on LAX, but for SFO folks, it is a rather big deal to steal a flight from LAX.
