AVL has NW, DL, US & CO flights flight to MSP, DTW, CVG, ATL, MCO (seasonal), PHL, CLT, EWR & IAH. Two airbridges & three tarmac level gates. Either CRJs, ERJs, DH1s or ATR72 flying in here.

They're planning to expand the terminal and add a second parallel runway (16R/34L) in the coming years however.

Aviation is proof that given, the will, we have the capacity to achieve the impossible.

ABE has a bunch of service, though it has a huge Private and General aviation side as well. It's commercial ops are as follows:

Air Canada to Toronto (3x daily) (Beech 1900D)
Allegiant Air to Orlando/Sanford (2x daily) (MD-80)
Continental to Cleveland (3x daily) and Boston (3x daily) (Beech 1900D and EMB-135 and 145)
Delta to Cincinnati (4x daily) and Atlanta (4x daily) (CRJ-200)
Northwest to Detroit (3x daily) (CRJ-200)
United to Washington (4x daily) and Chicago (5x daily) (Saab 340 and CRJ-200)
US Airways to Charlotte (3x daily), Philadelphia (7x daily), Pittsburgh (4x daily) (A319, Dash-8, EMB-135, EMB-145, Jetstream 41)

45 daily departures, all non-stop. There are, obviously, 45 more in the opposite direction, so ABE sees about 90 daily operations.

AF1 came into ABE when GWB started his tour of Pennsylvania.

Obviously, US Air has the most diversity and biggest presence. Hope to see one of the retro A319's there at some point!

Do you mean small airports in size even though they might be in a large city such as LaGuardia (LGA), Reagan National (DCA), Midway (MDW) or Lindbergh Field (SAN) or do you mean resort type cities where they might get (at least seasonally) more then their average share of flights such as Palm Springs (PSP) or Eagle/Vail (EGE)? Or do you mean small towns with a good amount of service for their size? Places like like Portland, ME (PWM), Charleston, SC (CHS) and Juneau (JNU) come to mind. (A few of my favorites at least).

This is not a complete list by any means, just trying to hone down what "small" means.

Don't forget XNA ... 20 years ago, it was in the middle of nowhere. Now it has nonstop service to LAX, LGA, DFW, MEM, EWR, CVG, STL, ORD, ATL, CLT, IAH, MSP, SLC, and DEN. I'm sure the people of this area would take issue with anyone that says Wal-Mart is bad for the economy.

If there weren't the need, the airlines wouldn't fly the routes. Wal-Mart and Tyson Chicken are headquartered there. The airport serves an area of about 400,000 people, I believe, so it's not a stretch that it would have that service.

Ssides, I agree. TheLUREnyc makes it sounds like the airlines are spoiling Northwest Arkansas - "Now I know you don't NEED a nonstop to LAX, but here you go, honey!" Yeah, airlines do that all the time.  Yeah sure

COS comes to my mind when you talk about Small airports that have decent traffic, you have UA - AA - NW - DL - HP - CO - COM and MESA with direct service to
Chicago , DEN , PHX , SLC , Eugene , LAX , LAS , IAH , Dallas , MSP , SFO , JACKSONVILLE , SAN ANTONIO and there is more but i can't remember all of it.

I personally like that airport its a small clean airport with decent service.

Here at CID we have a fairly good amount of flights and destinations

We have:
AA to Chicago, Dallas, and St Louis
DL to Atlanta and Cincinnati
UA to Chicago and Denver
NW to Detroit and Minneapolis
G4 to Las Vegas and Orlando/Sanford

Almost everything is RJ's, with the exception of the LAS and SFB flights being M80's and NW also mixes in a couple Saabs and a DC9 at times along with the CRJ's on the MSP runs.

We just had a record number of passangers use the airport at CID in June, on the way to topping over 1 million passengers again this year

DSM also sees a good mix:
AA to Chicago, Dallas New York Laguardia and St Louis
DL to Atlanta, Cincinnati and Salt Lake City
YX to Milwaukee
UA to Chicago and Denver
CO to Houston
NW to Detroit, Memphis, Minneapolis, Las Vegas and Washington Reagan
G4 to Las Vegas and Orlando/Sanford

Would my hometown airport, FWA, count?

We have a small terminal (expanded to 8 gates in 1996), with 4 gates at ground level and 4 jetway-equipped gates upstairs, and a two-lane security checkpoint, and outlets of two Fort Wayne, IN-based shops inside (DeBrand Chocolates and Vera Bradley Handbags).

Our air service includes:

DL Connection (Comair)--CVG
DL Connection (ASA)--ATL
AA Eagle--ORD and DFW
NW Airlink (Pinnacle & Mesaba)--DTW
UA Express (Sky West & Air Wisconsin)--ORD
CO Connection (CommutAir)--CLE

26 Post contains images B4real : I see a lot of small airports with a lot of service in this list, but I'd like to throw one out from a different stance. OAK. I believe OAK was design
27 FlyPeoria : DAY's service was significant during the mid-1980's into the early 1990's, from the time the Piedmont hub was busy with mainline jets and commuter fl
28 MtnWest1979 : I'll throw in BOI, as well. As of today, we have: GQ- BIL x1,BZN x1,MWH x1(for how long?),MSO x1,JAC x1,ALW x1, PIH x3 (but down to 2 eff 8/4) all BE1
29 MCOflyer : ELM has good flights. You have: US Express( Piedmont, Air Wis, Mesa) to PHL: CRJ, DHC-8, DHC-8-300 CO Connection ( Comuttair) to ROC, and CLE: B1900D
30 CentPIT : Used to have two times daily to PIT with DH8s as well! I guess not enough connecting traffic, oh well, enjoy PHL for connections! (hahaha)

32 FCYTravis : Mesa does not serve ELM - all their 50-seaters are gone from US East.
33 MtnWest1979 : You mean EMB 120 Brasilia And it is to DFW... but everyone knew that.
34 Toering : FAR is not too bad. NW, UA, DL flight as well as G4. I flew into CHA and found a fair amout of air service there. Really nice airport too.

36 MHO : You can't have a list like this and leave out TUS - Tucson, AZ

38 Iowaman : TUS service: Aeromexico to MEX Alaska to SEA US/HP and US/HP Express (Mesa) to PHX AA to DFW and ORD CO and CO Express to IAH DL to ATL F9 (Horizon)
39 KcrwFlyer : I think TUS is out-growing this thread.
40 DeltAirlines : Also, keep in mind that many, if not all, of the companies that do business with Wal-Mart come to Bentonville, AR - not Wal-Mart sending their buyers
41 Usair320 : well, A few come to mind although not tiny but considerably small. ABQ: WN-733,735,737-700 to Amarillo, HOU, DAL,PHX,TUS,SEA(I think), MDW,BWI,LAS,OAK
42 Burnsie28 : Yeah I was going to say, a total of four gates, 8 daily FAR-MSP-FAR routes on NW, 2 Daily FAR-SLC-FAR on DL, and 4x to both Chicago and Denver on Uni

45 CaptinTuT : yup JAX but like Iowaman clarified and i missed that its not a direct flight even though it shows on the board like one, sorry for that. and Thank Io
46 Post contains images SQ452 : Eagle/Vail...lets not forget that place in the winter!!! The sight of a handful of 757's lined up with stairs...
47 Jsnww81 : As others have said, probably the best examples are "vacation" airports like those at the Colorado ski resorts (EGE, HDN) and the Hawaiian neighbor-is
48 Texan : The service is not for Walmart and Tyson Foods per se. They have tons of employees, true, but these are business flight to connect the contractors an
49 Bnamaxx : Not to knock XNA, but years ago when the airport was under construction, I saw a report on CNN about it. It was quite a boondoggle and pretty contover
50 707lvr : This was an enjoyable topic, and we're lucky to have so many great local/regional airports. I wish the hover would learn a few more airport codes thou
51 OMA2FAI2SAV : No problem. I have done it before. I got excited for a second. I was going to drive the hour and a half to JAX and get on that flight to COS! LOL. Th

54 Usair320 : Your forgetting PHX and PHL.
55 Usair320 : forgetting PHL.
56 TWA1011 : Also Delta to JFK.
57 KcrwFlyer : Did we ever define "small" ? There have been a few airports on here I would never consider small.
58 Iowaman : It's all relative. TUS compared to PHX is small. LWB compared to CRW is small. Again, it's all relative and to a lot of people TUS is small and CRW i
59 MPDPilot : CO also does CLE and EWR. AA has LGA and has had DFW service but the DFW might not be running currently. DL also has ATL service. NW has LAS service
60 Blhp68 : WN has cut both N/S from PVD and MHT to MCI over the past year.
61 Post contains images UN_B732 : BTV has good service, but it does serve a good chunk of Vermont. Most notable is 4 daily A320s of jetBlue to New York, even tho we also get CO to BOS
62 Post contains images AirTranTUS : F9 to DEN: 2x A318 daily. That is not a flight you can buy tickets on. It operates to take illegal immigrants caught in the desert back to Mexico. I
